mobile data stops..airplane mode on/off to fix
Discussion
Hopefully one of you helpful people will know the answer to this.
I have a Samsung galaxy S7 with Virgin mobile.
Every now and then the mobile data stops receiving, can still see the 'H' symbol at the top of the screen but I cannot search the net or do anything data related i.e. whatsapp, faceache, news etc.
to fix this and get data back I have to either reboot the phone or place it in airplane mode and back to normal mode then data starts working again immediately.
This hasn't just happened with the S7 as I had a Sony Xperia before and noticed it would occasionally do the same thing .
it's not all the time just every few days it'll happen.
Any idea what is causing this chaps?

Standard ROM I take it?
When I was on Virgin on a clean phone, it'd just come up as Virgin or virgin. I never quite figured out if that was because it was on a faster connection or a T-Mobile or Orange mast.
When I put cyanogenmod onto the phone it then started saying T-Mobile and sometimes Orange. I used to force it to t mobile and the speeds were usually better. It could be that you need to force it manually to choose a network operator rather than auto select

"Virgin" vs. "virgin" is an indication of whether it's on a T-Mobile or Orange mast, following the merger.
As for the OP's problem - it's more likely to be a problem with DNS, routing or DHCP. Switching into aeroplane mode switches off the network interfaces and they get a restart when you switch back to normal mode, meaning they obtain new addresses & DNS info. from the networks and set up new default routes.
A starting point would be to set your DNS servers to 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 (the Google public DNS servers) and see if the problem goes away. If that doesn't do it - toggling aeroplane mode occasionally is probably the simplest solution.

As it comes from Virgin mobile yes. When I was on Virgin on a clean phone, it'd just come up as Virgin or virgin. I never quite figured out if that was because it was on a faster connection or a T-Mobile or Orange mast.

I'll have a look at forcing it to the network operator
thanks

I am also with Virgin and have exactly the same problem.
The phone is a Galaxy Note 2. I recently changed the ROM to ResurrectionRemix to get the latest Android (was on 4.something with TouchWizz), but it still has the problem.

it happens every now and then...reboot works but it seems airplane on and off works faster..
