I am unable to open Outlook (2003)- when I try I get this message - "Cannot start Microsoft Office Outlook. Unable to open the Outlook window. The set of folders could not be opened. The server is not available. Contact your administrator if this condition persists" and then it shuts down.

My laptop has locked up twice today and I think something has go awol.

I really don't want to loose my emails and contacts so - I have tried to "repair" from the Office Pro 2003 but to no avail.

I cannot find any files that would be contacts and mail info so i can save and fully reinstall.

Any help much appreciated - thanks

Before re-installing outlook, search for any files with a .pst extension and back these up. You can then import them back into outlook and will have all your old messages and contacts etc.
This will normally be in C:documents and settingsuser namelocal settingsapplication datamicrosoftoutlook
You will probably have to change the setting to allow you to view hidden files to see this folder in windows explorer.
Hope this helps.

Sounds like your laptop is set up to log on to an Exchange Server and that this server is not available. Could it be that you are using the laptop offline (ie not connected to your network)?
