People who say they have the series 1 in this thread, they don't.

We (myself included) have the series 0.

When the series 2 is launched, they will also launch a series 1 which is faster than the current watch.

BTW - I'm happy with mine and a faster processor, GPS and water proofing isn't enough for me to upgrade.
I think Apple will regard both our versions and the speed bump as Series 1.

It looks as if the OS update will extend the life of the current ones - hope it doesn't knacker the battery however.

I think it's the same form factor. Although the headlines are GPS and Water Resistance, the real step forward will be OS 3 which supposedly will be available for all from the 13th...
I've just found the link - http://www.macrumors.com/2016/09/08/apple-watch-se...

It's unusual for Apple to release a second generation product that isn't slimmer, but the battery life must be a big issue with GPS.

I was going to do the same but with the current exchange rate and US sales tax it's about a £75 saving. I will probably buy in the UK to benefit from the better consumer protection (i.e. not just the standard worldwide 1 year Apple warranty)
Don't forget you still have to add tax on to that cost so in NY for example on $399 would add an extra $35 on to the cost.

Good point. Sorry I missed the tax part.

Also, most watches are fairly chunky. Especially the luxury brands. Perhaps Apple aren't too concerned with making it very thin. Personally, I wouldn't want a watch that was too thin. Having said that, there probably is some desirability in having it slightly thinner.

I think it's a much more appealing prospect but at £600 it seems a bit expensive for what it brings.
It can be £200 less than that for the 42mm Series 2.

And a 38mm Series 1 for £269.

Having recently joined a gym, and playing a lot of golf, I'm quite tempted.

I use my original version everyday and do t get the whining about battery. I charge it each night and very rarely is it at less than 50%.

My phone stays in my pocket most of the time. Texts, whatsapp etc all come through to the watch.

Whe. I leave the house I tap a button on the watch and it turns off all the lights and TVs, drops the thermostat a few degrees, and locks all the doors. When I pull on to the drive it does the opposite.

What Hardware / App are you using for the home automation?

The more I look into this, the more I like it. Especially paired with those new fancy wireless Airpods.

Music at the gym, no phone, no wires, no iPod, just your watch. Which is doing its fitness thing at the same time.

Am I missing something?

How far from my iPhone can I expect to be able to be before losing connection?

How long do you expect those AirPods to stay in your ear whilst exercising?

You don't need the phone, music can be stored on the watch.

It also works anywhere on the same WiFi network, which might work better for you.

Well I presume they will stay in just as well as the usual Apple earphones?

You'd have thought something without the weight of a cable attached to the bottom would be better than those with, no?

Hmmmm.... Ok. That's not great.

Edit - just read the bit about wifi. That's good!

So in theory you'd still get notifications and everything that being connected to your phone offers if you're on a wifi network.

Yes, it's one of the best features of the watch.

This is the selling point for me, I can leave my phone in my locker and still get messages through due to being on the same wifi network. I'm just debating if £400 really is worth it for something that could be obsolete in a few years...
