True. But there maybe some work a-rounds. Havent tried this yet;

But maybe using SuperSu to temporarily unroot, and then renaming SuperSu might do the job.

Don't think you actually need to root the phone, I tried using a root explorer at first to edit the build.prop but this didn't work presumably since the system was mounted read only. I edited the file in TWRP instead.

This was the way I was planning to do it with TWRP.

Can you confirm if you can still OTA update? I don't really want to loose OTA updates cba flashing every month these days.

No idea! Other than an unlocked bootloader (which has been fine with the OTA updates, a precaution as I was on the beta program) my device was completely standard. I only TWRP'ed/rooted it after installing 7.1. I might just undo those changes before doing the next OTA update.

Wonder if you can modify it and then undo the modifications but keep assistant etc.
