Getting really bored of being treated like a second rate app citizen!
I've hung with windows phone now since the Lumia 800 in the vain hope they would start populating the app store. Not only is the store not growing but apps are being stopped!
Work use apps such as Expensify and workflow, both have apps for iPhone or Android....and that is just a few examples!
So the question is...ditch or persevere?

IMO ditch. If it hasn't picked up yet then it likely never will.
It is with heavy heart that I agree...pride and stubborness are just clinging on at the moment.Excuse my ignorance, but aren't most apps developed on a Windows machine? How hard can it be to make them compatible with a windows mobile??
Microsoft purchased Nokia to make an impact in the mobile phones business as we all know. They rebranded the smartphone as the Microsoft Lumia and kept the Nokia brand for the feature phones.
But they didn't invest for some reason.
Now they have sold the Nokia brand on to HMD (former Nokia employees) with Foxconn (iPhone manufacturer) buying everything else and geared to make the new Nokia phones for HMD - re-launching with new smartphones using Android as well as new feature phones.
As for Microsoft and Lumia; dying...consider that most of their phone division has now moved with the Nokia sale...what's left? Not much. If they didn't invest before, why would they now?

I dumped Windows phone almost 2 years ago, I loved my Lumia 920 and the OS; probably ranked up there as the best phone I have had, it was slick, different and just worked but Windows phone just wasn't going anywhere, so I went back to Android, the 950 could have been great but was average and Microsoft just didn't seem to want to or to know how to progress.
It's a shame as it could have been great.

I'm in the same position, upgrade is due this week and I've decided it's time to jump ship rather than ride it out for the next 2 years with very little support.
The lack of aps for work and general life is the deciding factor.
The problem is that I really don't get on with Android (my son has a tablet and I just can't work it out) and I hate the idea of going to Apple. After testing out an Android phone this weekend it looks like I'm going to end up with an Iphone and a little angry at myself for giving in.

Microsoft is kind of in purgatory at the moment, they are trying to unify the OS for all devices, this is difficult but the end game is that all apps will work on all devices, and that end game to me looks like the market that blackberry have but don't deserve. The new MS phones will likely be aimed at the corporate market.
The mobile apps market will contract as their is going to be no need for mobile apps, you will be able to run pc apps on your phone. This is still a while off, it was supposed to come with wondows 10 but hasn't... Tablets have transitioned over ok and the latest update makes that better.
BTW google are doing the same this soon too, unifying the chrome OS and android.
