Last time I looked, backup was awful on Android - Sprite Backup & MyBackup both letting me down in my hours of need. Photos backed up by Google but IIRC they are not at full resolution/quality.
Just install dropbox.

Contacts are backed up, whatsapp is backed up. I guess the only thing missing will be SMS messages

I have purchased most Google things in the past, I have a Nexus 6P, Nexus 9, Chromebook, Chromebase, Nest Thermostat at the moment.

Have also owned Nexus 4,5.

I won't be purchasing the Pixel or Pixel XL. Price is far too much.

The only thing my 6P is missing will be Google Assistant which is a shame as it looks good but I'm not going to spend £££ just to get it.

I have the new Pixel launcher installed on my Nexus 6P and 9 and prefer it over the old Now launcher.

This is getting fantastic reviews as a whole, one review has said the camera isn't all that, however the majority are very favourable towards it.

Popping to town later so hopefully I'll have an opportunity to have a quick play with one.

Compared with just swapping out a microSD card...
That can get lost very easily.
Just install flickr and store all your photos at full resolution automatically.

My Samsung S6 is giving me grief with phantom back button presses. I really would like a new phone right now.

I'll miss wireless charging...it's so handy at work to just pop it on the stand (like this https://www.amazon.co.uk/ELEPHAS-Wireless-Charging...

S7...maybe
Pixel XL...the cost doesn't put me off. But the wireless charging...hmmm
Wait for the S8...still may lack wireless charging.

Had wireless charging on 2 phones; current LG-G3 and my Lumia 920 before that, I've never used it so the Pixel not having it wouldn't really bother me if I did get one, neither does the lack of water resistance; never had it before, never needed it so not something that I'll miss.

You won't miss them until you've used them. It's liberating not having to worry about your phone getting wet (or being able to wash it when dirty!) and it's just simpler to be able to pop it on a charging pad rather than having to fumble with wires.

I want my phone to minimise hassle and they remove two small but regular annoyances.

Have to agree with Mr Will, while my phones haven't been waterproof and I've used wireless charging like once or twice, if you pay the best part of a grand on a phone, I'd want it all, especially if it all can be had on cheaper devices.

Going from Android recently back to an iPhone I think backup is one of their biggest weaknesses...

I get the whole "it's great being a power user, you can choose your own backup solution!" but sometimes you just want something that works that you don't have to think about. It's nice knowing that backup "just works" and happens either wirelessly or whenever I connect the phone to iTunes.

Sometimes having infinite choice is worse than having that choice taken out of your hands.

What does iTunes backup? I haven't used Apple products since the first iPhone.

My Nexus 6P/Nexus 9 are backedup via Google Account, factory reset by device the other day and everything was there when I reset it up. Only thing missing was text messages but that doesn't bother me tbh.

Everything

with iTunes backs up everything, plug in a different phone the same model and its an exact clone of your previous phone.

Both google and MS should have the same feature but don't, I do quite like one drive for the fact that all my photos are on all my devices instantly, if a take a picture its goes straight onto my pc instantly. Im using a windows phone but changing to android soon, will still use one drive. 'Note' is also rather nice, make notes/lists, saves them to all devices no matter the device you made them on. Id guess the other companies do that same, just need to set it up.

Does android have google docs/drive/mail integration etc in the same way?

Mine arrived yesterday.
It is nice. Solid, well built, good screen, fast. Everything just works.
Nothing stand out when compared to my 5X.

Any benefits over the Now or Nova launchers?

I'd assume I'd need to flash and/or install the APK manually as the Play store says my device isn't compatible despite having modified the build.prop to use Google Assistant.

Android backs up everything. Buy a new phone, sign-in with your Google account and, once it has synced, you have all your photos, apps and everything.

You don't even need to sign in - unlock both phones, touch them together and back up from the old one starts downloading on the new one. Magic!

yes

And just tried the Pixel Launcher, don't think after using Nova Launcher I can go back to big icons and a 4 x 4 layout and 4 dock icon style again.
