Google Pixel smartphone
Discussion
I generally change every 2 years, had Pixel 2 XL, 4XL and should of got 6 but ended up getting a refund for my 4XL and then getting a Pixel 5. So I should be due to get 7 this year, just had a 50% off offer through work for O2 refresh (currently on Three) and the new Nothing phone 1 is on there, really tempted with it as its a bit "different"

Yeti, have you considered the 6 to get the better camera? The 6A uses the previous generation camera.
I've heard mixed reviews on the 6? If the fingerprint scanner is anything like the 4a it's going out the window! It's a tough one though as there's a sale on at the moment so the 6 is a little more than a 6a. I still find the camera on my 4a outstanding. Google seems to do all their camera magic in-software, so having better camera hardware isn't as appealing. Happy to be told otherwise! I think it was this article I had in mind when I posted that:

Sounds like the fingerprint sensor is a lot more reliable on the 6A compared to the 6.

Fingerprint scanner on my 6 Pro seems very reliable. https://www.trustedreviews.com/deals/this-stunning...

Same. I find it more reliable than my work iPhone (no idea what type it is, couple of years old) and my 6 pro has recognised my fingerprint even when slightly wet which surprised me. No complaints so far with that. If I was critical id suggest build quality not as good as my old note4, and the WiFi seems to drop occasionally. Apart from that I think it's worth the 650 I paid for it. bmwmike said:

Got the phone and relatively pleased. Is there a way to get the notification count on the app icon, eg WhatsApp show number of unread messages?
Anyone know?https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com....

You can turn on Notification Bubbles in the Settings for each app. Which will put a Bubble (but not a counter) on the app if there's an unread notification or chat etc I'm not sure a counter adds anything more than the bubble/dot feature, other than clutter.

Thanks, will try that I'm not sure a counter adds anything more than the bubble/dot feature, other than clutter.
Now if only I could get chrome to stop grouping tabs.. and turn off overheat notifications.

Install a launcher, Nova is very popular, but there's load to choose from.

Have the launchers managed to get gestural navigation working properly? Been a while since I looked into but I remember folk saying it was laggy and some of the gestures didn't work at all? https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com....
My 6a landed today (new work phone), will see how I get on. 'Free' headphones with the pre-order (of 2 days ago!) - although also ordered the new pro buds - one of the kids can have the freebies.
I have a 6 myself which is decent enough, although the days of being blown away by phones appear long gone.

Enjoying my pro 6 but agree with the above about new phones. It's not as much a step up from my 2014 note 4 that I'd hoped. Little things like notifications, and the physical button for various things. Camera on the pro 6 is very good though and worth the upgrade as was the fact I can now do updates and not have to install my own root certs to access websites securely. p6 is way heavier than the note 4 though. Note 4 seemed a little better built and I miss the pen too, surprisingly.

I change phone every 2 years now, I'm on sim only, used to be all the even numbered ones but switched to odd when I got the 5 to replace 4XL.
Very much doubt I will go for a 7 later in the year as the 5 is still going strong.
As the person above posted, I think the days of phones making leaps and bounds over previous models have gone. I think one area that we need significant improvement is battery life.Very much doubt I will go for a 7 later in the year as the 5 is still going strong.

Yep, the finger print reader is the only thing on my 5 I hate, slightest bit of dampness on either the reader or finger and it wont work. Gassing Station | Computers, Gadgets & Stuff | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
