Sorry, I know this has been done before, but I am looking for a cheap method of connecting my son's PC to my broadband connection. Ideally I would like to find a clever wireless solution that would have the two PCs connected, but may consider CAT 5, if it would be feasible over about 10 m without any additional hardware.

I have my machine upstairs with a Solwise single port router, he has a machine downstairs, that he uses dial up to connect to. I would like to be able to share my connection.

Any thoughts, comments, critisisms that I have not given enough detail?

My advice would be to mothball the Solwise kit and get yourself a Netgear DG834G ADSL Wireless Router and a WG311 PCI wireless network card.

Then connect your PC via cable to the new router, fit the WG311 into the downstairs PC and then that will connect wirelessly to the router and out to the internet.

You can of course get 2 WG311 cards and connect your PC wirelessly as well if you wish.

You might be tempted just to get a wireless access point to extend your system. My thought is that since the full blown router is only a couple of quid more, go for the better solution.
