Just phoned them - what a bunch of fking shysters!

I asked them what the point of a contract was if they could increase the price whenever they liked.

"Well sir as you know it's something all companies are doing"

No it fking well isn't mad

Anyway, managed to keep the increase down to £2. I don't want the faff of changing especially with 3 of us working from home.

With the amount that I will be saving, it is worth running 2 suppliers for a month to prevent the cockup fairy fluttering her wings in the changeover.
Also it will give me both VM and fibre in to the house giving me lots more flexibility to move in the future.

This is what I did. Got Fibre up and running at the beginning of the week and camcelled VM today. Apparently when you cancel, they give you access to your email account for 90 days to enable you to change subscriptions, logons and so on, and to download contacts etc.

I wish I'd known that before, because then I could have cancelled weeks ago.

There's a fking surprise.

Contract Buy-out Charge £13.44

They asked me to move to O2!

Edit: I feel like I've got a part-time job talking to Virgin call centre staff.

I did the 3hr Whatsapp experience earlier today, following on from the email announcing an in-contract increase of £9 on top of £37pcm. Had the same outcome others have experienced, discounting by the increase amount until end of contract.

> Your next bill will be £25.30 including any pro rata charges as we have changed your package that will be due on 24/04/23 and the bill after that will be £28.00

It remains to be seen what the actual charges will be going forward.

Can't wait for FTTP - it's available at the property behind us (which we currently own). We're in a cul-de-sac so might have to wait longer.

Our VM cancelling went through pretty easily. We got a call with a ew offer in, but this was worse than the offer we turned down originally.

Now with Voda for 24 months at £30p/m for 500mb down and 70mb up. 500mb up would have been nice but it is what it is. At least in 2 years if we are still at this house then we have some flexibility to stay, go to another FTTP or go back to VM as new customers.

The sales guys must be getting desperate.
Had another call from them today: same price as I am paying (£68/month) with no price increase for 200 TV channels, 100gb O2 sim, talk anytime package and a move from 250Mb/s to 500Mb/s.

But they wouldn't drop the price for just the broadband so cancellation goes in next month, once I have used the 100 quid credit for non-provision of phone service for a couple of weeks.

Had the email, 350BB was £33 PCM, going up to £40pcm, I`ve been with them for 25 years, since the ntlworld days. Whatsapp was useless. so I started the cancellation process.

Just had a phonecall from Retentions, offered £32 for the 350 for 18 months.

Explained new customers can get the moneysavingexpert deal of £23.95PM, then £100 cashback which is £18.40 per month with no price rise.

Was told they cant match that and the best is £26 per month for 250MB.

If they don`t call back, I`ll look at one of the SIM options instead, he was very much "take it or leave it", so at the moment, I left it.
Finally sorted this. Had a call from a senior sales rep who covers this area. He is sales in the morning and retentions after lunch.

He couldn't really do much on the 350 or 250 mb, but said let me look at 1gig, I have more discretion on that.

I thought "here we go, up selling already" rolleyes

He offered 1gig BB for 18months, headline figure is £32 but he can knock off another £12 so it's 18months 1gig at £20 per month, but with a price rise next April.

I'm delighted with that, I don't need the speed but it's better than any previous offer I had with them.

Absolutely once you have been cabled up it opens up more than double the possibilities

This was part of our thought process. We have been stuck with VM for nearly 10 years, so a break is quite nice.

Got the letter so called cancellations. Wanted to drop TV as I only got it because they price match a Sky Sports / MotoGP offer last year.

The best they would offer on BB only (500mb or 1gig) was £64/month.

This suprised me as their website usually tells you what prices revert to outside contract, but BB only it suggests the price after month 7 continues until you cancel. Anyone else interpreting this the same?

All they could say to explain this was 'its a new customer offer', even when being probed as to 'what is the standard price out of contract'.

Yeah they are. VM are losing customers hand over fist.

I've been with them for a good 10 years, and a few before that when I was still with my parents and there isn't a thing about their service that hasn't got worse. With most people not needing TV/Phone deals anymore they're starting to struggle.

Must admit, I'm getting pretty close to sacking them in too. Had a few discounts and a dispute in my favour with the CISAS to keep my price reasonable.

Do you need that speed? You should be able to get 200mb for £20/m.

Thanks for suggestion. Need 500mb, but VM no longer offer it as a standalone & their offer to recontract on that rate was higher than 1gig

Good news, they are around the corner here now!
They have their label on my BT pole, do they connect using overhead fibre to the house?

I’m quite happy with my Virgin service & price 250mbps / £20.25 after I called them when they hiked the price

But good to have competition when it’s up in December.
May trial 3G also , says i’ll get 5g here (£20 a month), can give it back if it’s pants..

See my post above.

After going through the cancellation route and rejected a retention call, I'm on 1gig for £20 per month.

Obviously it depends on who you end up dealing with. rolleyes

They do on Moneysavingexpert: 38 quid/month. Offer finishes on 3rd April. But of course it is for new customers only...

Hence I will be sacking them off.

Thanks wh00sher. Yeh you've gotten an amazing deal. And the interesting thing is it depends whether you get a second call back as reading the previous pages not everyone has!

So then the risk might be that I go back with my tail between my legs before the cancellation actually goes through because, annoyingly, Open Reach have upgraded every property in my area to FTTP apart from my building. This is despite being right next to the exchange (its 30 meters away). They have said they're at capacity with no further plans to upgrade. If I moved next door I'd get it!

Kudos

Called them today, couldn't really be bothered with the cancellation game and accepted their second offer. They offered 1 month discount of £5.25 (down to £19) and waived the increase until end of contract in August. So, £25/month for 125mb
