Wanted to cancel my BB and phone package... managed to get rid of home phone and get 100mb broadband for £32.

50mb broadband was offered at £27.

12 month contract.

Need to call them up too, my broadband only deal has jumped up by £5 pm and I don't think I have been notified.

Tempted to move away as been with them a while, get the odd dropout every so often too which is annoying.

Good to see BT went well for megaphone, anyone else moved elsewhere?
Now this is just getting silly. Letter through the post today saying my bill is going up £1.99 a month from 1st November.

Should have rang them up in July when In posted the above, will be doing this week though.

I have been looking through this thread for the past few days, and have decided to pull the trigger and give my 30 days notice. Lets see how it goes. I'm paying £36 for 100mbps and the crap phone line. Hoping to recieve a call by the end of this week.

Just a question, I really want to get Sky for TV, but their £22 for just the original package is a bit too much for me, do you thing I can get a better deal as a new customer?

Did they offer you this as a new customer or existing (so a retention deal)? Reason I ask is that I got offered a completely crap retention deal by them this morning. £43/ month for 200mb or £99 for Full House TV + phone +200Mb BB. Needless to say I decided to cancel the lot and will find somewhere else. The TV service is awful with some HD channels working, others not, so won't miss it

I just phoned to complain about my £3.49 increase (6.9%). They agreed to knock me down to what is essentially the Player package. 100mb, basic telly, evening and weekends calls for £46 a month. I've just checked and the Player package for new customers is £33 a month. Robbing barstewards. I think it's time to cancel.

I rang them up last week as the discount on my broadband had ended and pushed it up to £41 odd a month (for 150Mb/sec). I got 100Mb/sec for £32 a month for a new 12 month contract which is pretty much the same as the deal via Uswitch that was on HotUKDeals the other week. This puts me back where I was before this years price increase. I just played hardball. Give me that deal or I cancel. Don't know if its a good deal or not but I'm happy smile

This was a retention deal. I initially cancelled, was given a disconnection date and they called me a number of times (missed their calls) in the days following and offered that straight off when I picked up the phone.

Give it a couple of days and tell them Sky offered Fibre broadband for £20 etc when they call back..

Just come off the phone from Virgin, I have mix tv/50mb broadband/free weekend & evening calls for £46 a month untill the £3.99 increase, I just paid my phone line up front with an extra £50 discount so £146 (instead of £228) this brings my new monthly bill down to £27 a month for the next 12 months.

Got the dreaded Green arrow this morning which prompted me to make this call.

Retention guy offered to scrap the new increase but that still left me with paying broadband only for £28 which isn't very competitive for me, seemed he was open to putting a bundle of tv and calls for the same price, sending out a 4k box etc but don't need that.

Told him I was aiming for broadband only for a price in early £20s but he didn't seem able to do anything. Didn't want to spend to much time on the phone so ended up affirming my 30 days notice and so the call ended.

Time to shop around although will answer any withhold numbers as mentioned on here to see if they can offer anything better, but hoping not as quite fancy a change.

Been with Virgin for many years, and don't like the thought of being a creature of habit smile Plus it is only by companies knowing people will cancel that they will stop trying their luck with regular price increases, can't encourage this behaviour.

And next time I join Virgin, I could get up to £250 cashback https://www.topcashback.co.uk/virgin-media-fibre-b...

They didn't even want my superhub (2 I think) back. Just said chuck it away.

Thanks Dave, will keep an eye on bill.

Looks like I'm going with Vodafone. £30 on Topcashback with it.

Gave my notice, had a call and signed up for 12 months with the new TiVo box, 100Mb BB and weekend phone for £30 a month.

The new TiVo box is head and shoulders above the old one. A huge improvement.

Bloody hell, that is just what we need. Still got 3 months on this contract though.

So had the call, was from a 0800 number. Made a few different offers which were all more expensive than the competition, So I asked him why I should pay a premium when his company shows no loyalty to me and he didn't have an answer hehe... I did say if he matched the £20 a month Vodafone deal I would stay, he then put me on hold for a while and came back saying best they could do was £22 a month for broadband only which I declined.

Not a bad deal at all, but sick of their sneaky little regular price increases, not a flawless service as it does going down every so often, and Virgin has poor upload speeds so said no thanks.

I phoned to cancel on Friday due to the 6.9% hike in price.

They phoned today and knocked £17 a month off a potential £53 package. No quibbles, no arguing. I accepted that and moved on. This also includes the upcoming increase.

Go for it people!

Yes.

Losing a customer is the last thing a telecoms company wants to do.

The reason for this is that the 'cost to acquire' a new customer is massive - think of the millions Virgin spend on adverts, mailings, its own shops, shopping centre stands and so on. All that translates in a high average cost of a new customer, so why let an existing customer walk away who is known to pay his bills on time, much more sense business wise to cut your profit margins on him.

Also consider if you actually need 100mbps as Virgin make their money selling the high speeds, not many actually need that fast a connection and will be cheaper to drop down.
