So turns out my contract ended december 2017............................ I didn't realise I had a discount which runs till July 2019 and brings it down to £35.45 a month. After this goes up to £45.45

Currently have 200meg fibre, Player tv package (lowest one) & lowest land line. They have increased the tv package and kept me at £35.45 for another 12 months in a contract. Then "apparently" it goes to £50+

By then I will ring and sort it again. Will do for now

Was paying £45pm under a new contract which expired last December, was due to go up to about £60pm. (mid-level TV, 100mp broadband IIRC)

I cancelled but via the retention department managed to renew, they called 2 weeks later and kept me on my old package and reduced my bill to £32pm...

have just phoned VM as my contract has crept up to a bill of £72 this month. Looked on their website and they're offering new customers deals that make mine look awful. Got an unhelpful agent who couldn't get me a decent package for anywhere near the new customer deals so I asked to cancel. She was quite abrupt and borderline rude. Have a month now to find a replacement/hope someone more helpful calls with a better deal offer. Have been a customer since they took over from NTL - 20 years or more.

That summed up my experience, including the borderline rude, so much so that I told then to cancel - even then they were bloody awkward as they would only cancel with exactly 30 days notice until they spoke to a supervisor.

After two calls from retentions, the brought the VIP package I was on from the standard £129 one the promotional rate ended back down to £90 with a £50 credit. The thing that did stick in my throat was the "free" upgrade to 350Mb broadband, which in theory I should have been on anyway.

I would have moved, as I had a good option on broadband but didn't want to commit to a contract that couldn't move with us.

I don't want to miss any calls from retention so I called back to find out how to get calls redirected from home line to mobile. Amazingly this facility costs an extra £2 a month and also means I don't get voicemail anymore (even if not actually redirecting). Plus I had to un-cancel for them to do it so will need to call back tomorrow to re-cancel.

Just give them your mobile number as primary contact number until you have your retention deal sorted out

If you're not happy, cancel your service instead of renewing. They'll give you a disconnection date 30 days in the future, then call you back within a couple of days to say that they've suddenly realised they can offer you a better deal. We have Full House TV (XL / top package), Vivid 200 gamer internet, M phone, Homeworks and an upgrade to 2x V6 boxes. We now pay £41 a month.
most big companies do this ,

I stayed with them in September for £66 and a £50 credit without Sky Sports.

They offered £71 with sky sports, no credit at the time.

Had a call a few days ago...

Lady ‘hi. We have a loyalty offer on till August, £16 a month for Sky sports’

Me ‘I was offered it for £10 in September and I didn’t take it. Can you lower it to that and I’ll take it for the next few months’

Lady ‘ah it’s £16. So you will take it then?’

Me ‘ no. I’ve just said I already knocked back the £10 offer in September if you do it for £10 now I’ll take it’

Lady ‘ah it’s £16. I’ll sign you upto it for £16. You’ll enjoy it and you’ll get use out of it’

The only reason I didn’t take it up in September as they were showing no Liverpool games and don’t even have La Liga anymore.

Told her no. I’m still half expecting a £16 bill next month.
She then goes ‘so we have this SIM card that’s on offer. Do you have family who need one? Let me tell you the details’

I immediately binned her off and told her no thanks. I’ve got to go.

Was one of the pushiest phone calls I’ve ever had. Might sack it all off this September and just keep the broadband.

I had the same when I left about a year ago. From about 3 months after that I've been getting junk mail through the post telling me "there's never been a better time to come back to Virgin" & offering £400 savings or some bks. If they'd just given me a straight deal in the first place I'd probably have stayed. Sky etc are no better of course. These companies seem to be run by myopic twits.

More bullst by Virgin...

Had a phone call from an 0800 number.
Had a number of the calls throughout the past few days and after they left a voicemail I decided to answer.

To a person offering sky sports and cinema for £23 more a month, so £86 in total.

I tell them it is too dear sorry. The line drops, call goes.

I get an email telling me about my new deal for £86 a month.

Wow!

Just looking at the bill:-

Talk more anytime
1 additional tivo
vivid 200 (i downgraded this to save money and they have upped it - and the price without notification)
sky sports hd
full house tv xlv6 box
Sky sports and tv collection

total £110 with £19/month for the phone

Truly shocking in my view. No idea what the last one is? or the full house for that matter

I was paying £25 p/m for 50MB fibre optic broadband (no line or tv package). I had a sales call couple of months ago trying to sign me up for a contract (out of contract for a while) onto a deal that I didn't want or need. I terminated the call.

Price went up to £27 p/m in April, and then my most recent bill went up to £33 p/m, with the discount to be removed at some stage, thus the price I would be paying in the near future would be £35 p/m.

On price comparison sites, most deals - not just Virgin, in the interests of fairness - are for new customers only. I went with Sky for 59MB super fast fibre inc. phone line (won't even connect a handset!) for £27 p/m as I had zero interest in staying with Virgin. Still had to do the cancellation / rentention dance. Cancellation was quick, once I finally got through to someone (1 hour wait). Got the inevitable retention call, halfway through the sales rep disconnected once it became clear I had zero interest in staying.

The whole broadband dance is a pain in the rear because price comparisons show deals that are not available in one's area [fibre], even though you have to populate your post-code at the start of the exercise, deals are new customers only, and cancellations are generally call only w/ a long wait.

Update: cancelled disconnection with Vrigin and signed new 12 month deal (pricing held for 18 months inc. of Sep 19 price increase) for £29.50 pm. Unfortunately, to connect with Sky requires a Tree Surgeon, and then an engineer to perform some work in my house - all of which is a massive ball-ache and will take some considerable time.

Yet another price increase! Just got off the phone to them and I was insistent that I wouldn't give them a penny more. They held off the latest increase for six months.

well finally got round to cancelling again now I have the calls redirected to my mobile. Got nowhere with retentions (offered me a deal that is literally twice what a new customer can get the exact same package for) so have given notice. Now comes the wait!

I wouldn't hold your breath!
I have 1 week left until they disconnect me and have not heard a single thing from them since I told them to cancel (same reason as you)

Add me to that list. I had a few days left before I have to go on holiday, so I cancelled the cancellation as I'd heard nothing from Virgin and didn't want to risk complete disconnection whilst away.

Will try again once I'm back from my break. Perhaps they've gotten smart, or have simply been inundated by cancellation requests after the most recent round of price increases?
