Just cancelled with VM, just wouldn't shift on price after 16 years with them. Next stop BT.
You should get the retention call in a week!

I know how you feel. Have been with them since whenever they took over NTL.
I've been with Virgin since NTL days too and trying to get anything out of them is nigh on impossible, last year I managed a £50 credit. I have Virgin mobile too, recently I fancied an early upgrade, I was fine chopping my current phone in but I ended up £20 short, they just would not waive the £20, so I didn't bother, i was only enquiring on a whim anyway so it was no great shakes, however come my proper renewal date I may end up looking elsewhere, they lost the chance to guarantee tieing me in for another 18-24m for £20!

My colleague is with Sky, he always gets a deal come renewal time and doesn't seem to try that hard.

I am due to call in a few weeks, I only haggle to wipe the price increase off that's enough for me

Should be able to knock it down 20-30% from the pre-increase price.

I've just tried to cancel, but opted to check the market first then call them back...

They seem to offer the best deal for me (BT sport and sky sports).

How does it work then, just cancel and they're guaranteed to will callback with an offer? No risk of being cut off?

If you can play them off against another supplier, I'm sure it helps to get a better offer.

I suppose the combo of BT Sport + Sky sports is pretty toxic for getting better value out of either BT or Sky, as the opposing sports channel is always going to be expensive.

If you cancel, it won't be effective for thirty days anyway, and you can always un-cancel if they don't make you an offer.

Thanks thats really useful. I'll cancel tomorrow and see what happens.

At the mo i'm looking at about £72 for 100mb broadband and both sets of sports channels (sky and BT)

Well, that was hard work frown

Cancelled the service on the 2nd Dec with s termination date of the 2nd of Jan.

No calls to date and we received a bill for Jan-Feb this morning which wasn’t pleasant.

15 mins on the phone and we are now in a new contract but £30 less a month - I’m pretty happy with that tbh

Job done then!

They're not going to make it easy.

"I don't want to pay that amount."
"OK, here's £30 off."
"Ta."

I've always found them very good on the customer services/change contract side of things, but then I don't want any of the TV packages so my phone call every 12-24 months starts with me saying can I downgrade to only broadband please as I don't want the phone or TV.

That seems to start the conversation at the cost of the Braodband only end rather than the TV packages end.

This year I phoned in again as my previous deal was due to expire and got it back down to about £30-40 for 100MB, phone and basic TV.

They seem very ameniable if you start the conversation with a pleasant "Can you help me, I need to get my monthly costs down as I'm out of work" attitiude. smile

A couple of points to note while I'm thinking about it from this morning

Always negotiate when you are in contract - not after. Once the price has gone up they have less codes to get it down

Be wary of adding things in in lieu of a price reduction. You cant remove them to get the cost down.

That's what I'm paying for the same.

I was prepared to move but didn't actually have to terminate the contract although I was speaking to that department rather than standard customer services.

Interesting. Thanks. Didn't think of the timing factor.

I'm on M350 Fibre Broadband & Phone, the £37/month for 12 months deal is coming to an end.The price will shortly revert to £59.
I've tried to call to give my termination notice this evening, but apparently terminations are closed.
What deal have people been getting for Broadband & Phone only?

200mb, phone and tv bundle consisting of bt sports and kids channels (plus the usual).. 12 month contract, £44 a month.

Happy with that.

Had to cancel and this was the result after 3 calls from retentions.

A cancellation call and a 15 minute call later saves you £360 a year..... and it's hard work???

Should have got the PA to do it.

Why do you need 350mbs? Drop it down to 100 and save money, you should be looking at £27/m.
