2 moans:

1. on renewal, agreed an 18 month fixed price with them 2 months ago. Today, I get an email saying my price is going up £4/month. furious

2. I have asked them multiple times to change the email address they use for me. They always say yes we have done it. I check online and it looks correct. But then I keep getting emails from them to my OLD address (including the price increase email today). Any idea what i (or the Virgin person I speak to) is doing wrong such that my email address never updates? banghead

I got the same thing but pretty sure it said that the increase wouldn't kick in till the end of the fixed term (12 months) which is in June/July

Just trying to cancel mine now - there does seem to be an automated way of having the £3.50 increase delayed for 6 months via dialling 150. Obviously I'm trying for better than that.

I called and tried to get a better deal. Best they could do me was £51/mth. Alternatives are BT @ £36.99/mth, PlusNet @ £33.99/mth so have made my mind up to cancel Virgin

I would love to know how Virgin work out their pricing for customers as it appears a bit hit & miss like car insurance quotes, this is what I have and pay...

Gone from 68.99+pending 3.50 to 49.50pcm for M350+phone+basic tv (unused), 18 month contract. It'll do for me, given it wasn't much effort to secure.

Just be polite (but firm) and make sure they know you're prepared to walk. Ultimately you want to be passed through to Disconnections as they will be able to offer the best discounts. I mentioned I'd been with them for 16 years and had had to fit a backup Plusnet line due to their poor performance over the last year. Also brought up the new customer offers.

Cant get on to there virgin site at the moment, but, we have the up to 100m broadband, weekend phone and mixit tv, £33 a month for 18 months , after pressing the cancel button they came back with this deal it was costing £56 a month and that was with the basic tv package. so they do give better deals, but you have to cancel first.

I don't have a phone line but I do have 350mbps broadband and paying £38pm before this £3.50 price increase comes in. That seems a lot for a phone line and 200mbps broadband.

Think I will switch to 500mbps broadband they’re offering it at £45 and assume that wont get a price increase if i take the contract out next month?

Virgin tried to have me believe that the increase to £46.99 for 200mb broadband BY ITSELF was good value.

They obviously knew that the other offerings around here are stuck at <30mbps.

In the end they got more money out of me, but I was thinking of adding the TV bundle anyway, and ended up with the ultimate package (600mbps, all the TV channels/movies/sports in HD, 2 x Tivo, unlimited landline, unlimited mobile SIM, free install) @ £99 for 18 months - the unlimited mobile SIM and landline have replaced the £45-ish I was paying for them individually...so my 'man maths' calculate I've only had to pay an extra £8 for the speed bump and all the TV package.

The guy on the line even steered me away from the 1GIG package as he told me I wouldn't notice any difference to the 500mbps one - and it would be getting a speed boost shortly anyway.

I’m on Virgin and pay £28 per month for 100mb, eve/wknd calls and no TV. We’re apparently in the top 50% of users averaging 450gb per month.

I’m not convinced of the different speeds TBH. I’ve had 250mb in the past but can’t tell the difference with our current 100mb.

We use Orbi + satellite mesh thingy to cover our 4 bed house and never have problems.

I’ll be threatening them again with this new price hike and expect to swerve it somehow.

This is the problem we have in Hampshire no other provider gets above 30-50mbps. They’ve just spent a few million digging up our road last summer for fibre to the premises (not virgin) but just looked if it’s available and it will be an offering from Vodafone so even if it was better/cheaper I think I’ll stick with virgin.

I've mentioned this before... we have a 35Mbps Plusnet connection as a work backup line.

If I disconnect our 350Mbps virgin link I don't hear any complaints from the wife and daughter - this is as a household who watches all tv over the internet.

Yep, this has always been Virgin's "thing" to appease customers, they lob some more bandwidth at you which you don't really need.

I am currently on 100Mb having come off BT at 35Mb. Before I went to BT for 18 months I was on Virgin at 200MB & frankly, for everyday use, there is no discernible difference between them. If anything the 200Mb service was less stable.
