The best deals are always on callback. Doesn't make a difference if you demand the best deal now - the agents have no discretion. They have to follow the process.

Contract up in 30 days, so time for the game to begin. Am paying £28/m for 100mb/s. Going up to £51.00. Best offer after being put through to retentions is £33/m.

Have cancelled and have already signed up to Shell BB for £21.99/m + £50 bill credit. Will get 38mb/s which is enough for me. Only issue is I have to pay for a 'new line' even though I have a physical line into my office. Cost is £60, so cancels out the bill credit. Still £10/m cheaper than Virgin.

If Virgin come back with an offer I'll stay, they'll need to match or beat what I'm currently paying. They are offering new customers the same package for £24/m

Got a call this morning on my mobile, got the same 100mb/s for £24/m, fixed for 18 months. Also includes a virgin SIM with unlimited minutes and texts and 5GB data, not sure I have any use for it but it's free. I've accepted. Now have to cancel the Shell BB I have already signed up for, should have waited!

This happened with my Brother and TalkTalk.

Yes maybe, it's already showing as cancelled on my Shell account, so I'm guessing Shell contacted Virgin to request my phone number switch, Virgin then called me to try and keep me, they have now cancelled the switch with Shell.

Will see if Shell get back to me. I'm ok with £24/m, unless it is noticeably cheaper, sub £20/m I'll stick with Virgin as the BB is very good and I can't be bothered to switch as I'll need a new line for any 'BT' based service.

I cancelled on 25th Feb. No call. Getting tight...suspect they won’t and I’ll have to go crawling back

Best to sign up with another provider and port your number, then they will know you are serious.

I just called Virgin asking what date I was due to be disconnected, in the hope they’d say “sure here’s a better deal”. None of that, simply “you’re disconnecting on 25th”.

Earliest I can get BT is 31st, so delayed Virgin. Have now ordered BT, so let’s see if that kicks something in Virgin system

When you login to your Virgin media account and go to My preferences, have you enabled them to be able to contact yourself?

Update. I cancelled on Friday and took out a new contract with BT. Just had a call from Virgin retentions offering £26/month for 100mb, landline and weekend calls.

I maybe could have saved a few quid by pushing but was happy enough with this as it means I don’t have to get my alarm guy out to rewire my alarm into BT box.

So, seems it’s the cancellation request from new provider invoked their retention teams

I'm just in the period of coming out of contract and discount.

108mb broadband, weekend calls and basic telly. Going up from £41.50 to £61.50!

I phoned on Tuesday and they offered £44 a month for 18 months valid for 7 days.

I left it and randomly phoned last night at 8.40pm. Straight through to a helpful chap at home. I was his first caller in an hour! He said the best he could do was what was on the system (£44). He advised accepting that but calling back at the start of April (within the 14 day cooling off period) as the operators have better discounts to hand out.

I accepted the £44 and will call back in April. I'm at least covered at a reasonable price but could get better later......

Some really useful information on here, thanks to all. I want to start a web chat with them but can’t seem to locate the right place to do that, does anyone have a direct link to the web chat page please?

I suspect web chat won’t get you far.

After failing to be able to chat to anyone about our future housemove I rang this number and got through within seconds on Friday 0800 9522 277..........and even though I think they are actually the retentions team they managed to resolve my issue for me.

I phoned back last night (new month, new discounts) and got a shock. The system told her that if she looked at it fresh there and then, it would have gone up to £47!

I said I wanted to leave and after a bit of bickering, she went away to "ask someone". It ended up with dropping from £44 to £41. Not a great deal but worth the phone call to be back paying what I paid last year.

So yes, new month new deals, but the prices may well go up!
