I have a Note 4 and I haven't seen any other phone that comes close to the quality of its screen. Photos are superb.

I would hope this continues.
My last phone was a Note 4. Fantastic phones.

A Xiaomi Mi Mix will do the bulk of that - has 6GB RAM, 256GB Storage, a 6.4 inch screen, a better shaped screen, fingerprint reader, a far higher screen to body ratio and a ceramic body for around £400.

I use a phone for my business and lots of travel and theres nothing i'm seeing in the Note 8 that the Mi Mix is going to do better. Certainly not £600 better.

http://www.techadvisor.co.uk/review/android-smartp...
That doesn't strike me as the most objective review...;)
Well i'm not advocating everyone rushes out and buys a Mi Mix, because apart from anything you cant officially buy them here, but Samsung and Apple are seriously having a laugh with flagship phones now costing circa £1,000, given what you can buy for an awful lot less with a bit of effort - and people are "conditioned" now to think thats a reasonable amount.
A Mi Mix will absolutely do the bulk of what the Note 8 will do, but if you want that little bit more you have to pay for it. The screen on the Mi Mix isn't as high resolution, the camera performance from what I've seen in reviews is nowhere close, it doesn't have the dual cameras, it doesn't have a stylus, it doesn't have a waterproof rating, it doesn't have bluetooth 5.0, it doesn't have an SD card slot, you can't even use it on O2 or any of the networks that piggyback O2.

I am sure these things don't bother you, and so the Mi Mix is a great phone for you! Indeed it's a great phone full stop.

However, if you do want these features you have to pay considerably more. For some time now it's been looking like the price of a flagship phablet in 2017/2018 will be around £750-£850, this isn't too far out of that range and so I consider it reasonable.

If it was, say, a four figure starting price I would probably consider it a lot less reasonable.

Was just checking there, yes the Note8 has an sd card slot which certainly helps and thus makes the 64GB variant viable.

And likewise give it 6 months the price will drop back a fair bit.

As you say, i personally dont need a waterproof phone, i dont need Band 20 and i never used the Stylus on my Note 4.

At £650-700ish in six months time for a 64GB variant (and now knowing it has an SD card slot) then it would be decent enough value.

beer

To be honest I think what I meant was more: That seems to be in line with the price I was expecting and I am probably willing to pay around that. Maybe I should have said that biggrin

hehe

I'll keep an eye on prices myself but the hysteria the latest phone from Samsung and Apple induces bemuses me, so i'll wait until that settles - as do the "are you having a fking laugh" monthly contract prices that o2 charge for kit like this.

On the plus side, my Note 4 was on a contract, this Mi Mix isnt so i'm less obliged to stick with it if i do decide a Note8 down the line is The One.

I'm on a Note 5 (bought in the US) - great phone, I put aside my S7 edge to keep using the Note 5. I use the stylus regularly so get some genuine benefit from the Note, as such was looking forward to the Note 8.

However, between the price and the position of the fingerprint sensor (Samsung need to listen to customers and not repeat mistakes) I won't be bothering - maybe as others have said in 6 months time. Thing is it's not my money - it goes through the company so no direct cost to me, but I still won't give them that amount for it.

Quite impressive dimensions when compared to an iPhone 7 Plus:

N8: 162.5 x 74.8 x 8.6 mm
7+: 158.2 x 77.9 x 7.3 mm

Had a Note 3, and now on a Note 4. Loved both of them.

I'm on an EE contract at the moment. They sent me a text yesterday with their special offer of only £50 upfront then £62.99 per month for 2 years.

Where do I sign!

Fking jokers. I think I'll let the contract on my Note 4 run out, then run it cheaply for a few months and maybe consider a Note 8 this time next year if prices are more reasonable.

Why are they jokers?

62.99 x24 +49.99 = £1561.75

Less handset cost of £869 = £692.75

= 24 months SIM/data cost of £28.86 (15GB/month)

Now you can buy sim only 15GB for £26/month... so it's not far off...?

Thats the price of an MX5 or a Clio 172.

I'm paying £16 a month for 20GB Data, unlimited texts unlimited calls, one year contract and £100 Amazon voucher for my trouble, so £92 for the year. I'll see whos offering what deal next year but the worst case will be i have to pay £16 a month to continue this contract, so max of £192 for year two, totalling £284 for 2 years

My phone isnt contract linked so i can do what i like with it when i like.

Perhaps it isn't a bad deal in the current market but, to put it in context, I'm paying £28\month for my Note 4 (about 18 months in) with no upfront price.

OK, it's only 2GB a month but I have exceeded that once as I use wifi everywhere.

It's reached a point where, like the previous couple of points, it just isn't worth the cost to me. Hopefully (like the Note 4) contract prices will drop markedly after the first 6 months - 1year and I'll pick one up then.

I only buy a new phone once my existing one dies. I've convinced myself that's the cheapest way to run a flagship device. Christ knows how long it'll be before my S7 Edge dies.

I think most of them die the death of the smashed screen - curved edges are NOT a selling point for me......

I see they will at least be selling the dual sim version of the Note8 through official channels - by why the stty setup where you have to sacrifice the SD card for the 2nd sim....I want 2 sims at the same time as a lot of storage, is that really too much to ask?

Don't think you'll get any takers for that offer. Unless you're really pretty.

Seems like a reasonable price to me considering how much a modern smartphone can do.

I’m not a massive fan of the placement of the fingerprint sensor and I’m still not really sure I see the point of an 18:9 display, I tend to like a little more screen width rather than length.
I prefer the 16:9 screen size too. I'm surprised Samsung didn't stick with this for the Note 8 to differentiate it a bit more from the S8.

Looks good indeed although I have realised the free DEX thing is just a dock, not the screen/keyboard.

A keyboard and mouse arent expensive though. It seems a very worthwhile bit of kit.

I've often wondered why, with the processing power, memory and storage of modern phones, docking station functionality isnt more prevalent.

Is anyone on here getting one? The reviews of it are all positive so far.
