Morning Guys, due to injury I have taken the temporary role of managing my local rugby team.

A major issue I have is trying to set up a system that lets me monitor the attendance of players for games & training. I want a basic system that sends out a group text "Can you confirm you are available on the X to play Y at Z, Text Y or N", I then want some kind of automated system that records the Yes and No and lack of responses e.g:-
  • Avavilable J. Smith, P. Davies, J. Thomas.......... 27
  • Unavailable R. Thomas, J. Phillips, S. Lewis.........8
  • No Response J. Harrop, S. Jenkins, T. Martin.....3
Obviously this would involve creating an address book / data base.

I have tried Teamer and although it seems to offer what I need, I was left very unimpressed, I sent 4 trial texts, two weren't received and to be honest it was too complicated and even went down for 48 hours through a trial period I ran with them. It also kept trying to rope the players in to the website/app which I do not want. The main aim is to get a response from everyone, without showing the squad who else is available/unavailable. We feel that showing availability (in a WhatsApp Group, website, app etc) can create a snow ball effect of non attenders (training) and also causes fringe players not to attend (games) if the first choice has confirmed he is available.

Happy to send through various media and also prepared to pay a small fee.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Wonder if it's possible to do it via WhatsApp using individual messages? Could you go via WA's website? https://web.whatsapp.com/

With WA you can see if a message has been received and read. Dunno about the technicalities of it, though.

Email acceptable ?

If so, could you use email invites to a calendar event of some nature?

Such as Google Calendar for example

I use google forms for a similar application.

https://www.google.co.uk/forms/about/

Set up and send link. Each player completes yes / no tick boxes on device and hits submit.

Responses are exported to a spreadsheet.

Easy.
