For what it's worth Carphone Warehouse are still showing all variations of the phone as being available for delivery on the 3rd:
https://www.carphonewarehouse.com/apple/iphone-x.h...
I ordered as early as I could on the iOS app, which apparently was down for longer than the website (so much for it being the fastest way to order), and my delivery estimate is also 2-3 weeks. Have also ordered from CPW to hedge my bets. Neither company has taken the money out of my account as far as I can see, so worth a shot.
I also called CPW and was told that as far as their systems were saying my order would be out for delivery on 03/11.
EDIT: I stand corrected, CPW have now taken the money from my account.

4K video consumes a lot of space so 256gb is the safer option.
The initial batch of 2-3 million units would have been chopped up between different countries, stores and carriers. The Apple UK website stock allocation sold out in a few minutes. The next batch is the 2-3 weeks, another at 3-4 and it's now at 5-6.
I understand there will be significant shortages due to some of the components yield rate being too low.

The app came up for me at 8.05am - manage to get one for delivery on the 3rd, and when I went back in to order another one it was 2-3 weeks or collection from the Edinburgh Apple Store on the 4th so went with that.
I ordered at 8:06 and it was 2-3 weeks then. The app paused and I ended up adding two to my bag, and by the time I edited it that was it. Cest la vie.Durzel said:
I dont get it. Surely this is just people doing fake bids? Or will people really pay several hundred quid premiums to not have to wait a couple of months?Rawwr said:

I don't think you understand how the typical Apple customer thinks fking mental then seeing as its almost guaranteed the person wanting it so desperately will already have an iphone which does exactly what the X does but with just a bit of a different screen. It is a cliche but some people really do have way too much money!
Bit of a rollercoaster for me today riding the phone.
I got my confirmed Nov 3rd order in early this morning. Great I thought. About 10 minutes later, Apple Pay pops up on my phone showing declined. Bit weird as this was an empty Barclaycard.
I ring Barclaycard who say nothing is wrong in my end but they are receiving a lot of Apple chatter at this time.
I call Apple, and the frazzled agent on the end tells me there’s nothing he can do, except to cancel and redo my order! By this time it’s 940am, so all orders have slipped to December. I asked him if he could retry payment, but no, gotta cancel. I reluctantly place a new order and also bung a Carphone Warehouse order in, to see which gets here first. Original order gets cancelled and I get the email.
I call Apple back later to double check if that really was all they could do. New agent says “hmm, let me check”. On hold for 15 minutes, and he says he’s put a request in to reinstate my cancelled Launch day order, but can’t guarantee anything.
10 minutes later, my phone pings, the old order was reinstated, payment taken and the phone is already getting ready for dispatch!
Cool story bro, first world problems, etc.

Seriously this shortage is just a bun fight staged by Apple. It’s all hyped.

Still, Apple sure as hell hasn't been playing it down, it helps sales after all.

I doubt it's all hyped, Samsung can only make so many OLED panels at a time and they'll obviously prioritise their own phones. I highly doubt they would have been able to produce the 20m+ panels Apple would need to be able to fulfil all preorders in the time they had since the design was finalised.

It's very simple, as you say, all components and the phones have a limited production quantity/day. Their pre-launch production stock obviously doesn't cut it (which is no shame). Still, Apple sure as hell hasn't been playing it down, it helps sales after all.
This means that with the initial rush of "must have newest shiny", they will have too few. These people will get the phone anyway so they don't lose any sales on that. On top of that, it slims down the "spike" in sales over an entire quarter, which is better for statistics anyway so that's a nice byproduct.
This happens with all popular phones, and a lot of cars have this "issue". Completely normal.

What I’m saying is that if there’s a shortage it’s because Apple like it that way. They could have produced enough X’s but it suits them if there’s a bit of bun fight for the first few weeks.Still, Apple sure as hell hasn't been playing it down, it helps sales after all.
I may change my 6 for an X or possibly an 8. In any event I won’t be getting up early on Friday to que up at an Apple store.
