Surprising to see someone say barely anyone they know uses WhatsApp. Over a billion people use it every day.
The fact you need a phone number is great to have it work with your existing contacts. Usernames/emails/PINs are messy.
Have to admit I installed it but none of my contacts were recognised by it at all and I don't know anyone personally who does use it ... which I've found odd with the stats I hear about usage for itThe fact you need a phone number is great to have it work with your existing contacts. iMessage all the way for me and my friends/family with only a handful having a non-apple handset

You have an odd demographic there, sounds like a big statistical anomaly all over the place .iMessage all the way for me and my friends/family with only a handful having a non-apple handset

I don’t know anyone who uses it! My boy also has an iPhone (and iPad) both without SIM. Being able to use iMessage, FaceTime and Find my Phone are invaluable. We’d have to have a very compelling reason to move 7 devices to Android and so far I just don’t see one. The fact you need a phone number is great to have it work with your existing contacts. If it works for you and you don't mind the cost, that's all fine. All I read is that apple successfully locked you in.Like I said, no problem if you don't mind. But it became a problem in my household once you got one or two non-apple devices for whatever reason.
All the services you mention have omniplatform alternatives.

It depends on if the A11 chip is less power hungry than the A10 chip in the 7+. I'd wait and see how people get on in the real world, rather than making assumptions based on specs.
If it costs c£20pcm on a like for like deal all in is that worth an 8+256gb over a 7+256gb?ZesPak said:

Its a fairly wide range demographic from 12-69yrs olds...the majority being in the 25-35 bracket - thats the odd thing - unless they've all coordinated and blocked me on whatsapp and haven't told me (?lol!)alorotom said:

I don't think you can "block" or appear not on whatsapp. Whatsapp has essentially removed the requirement for picture messages which cost a fortune.
It's also pretty useful from a work perspective - set up a group off you go. Perfect for quick communication without the need for emails phone calls

I've been using WhatsApp for years as a free way to send pictures. We have a work group entitled "not work related" which is the best way for us to send beer/food pictures, memes and embarrassing photos. I thought everyone did this? iMessage does get used for the odd text but most communication with my family and friends is done on WhatsApp.

I don't want to use either Touch ID or Face ID, I just want to be able to put my Pin code in and off I go.
If the X offers that then I might consider it, otherwise I think I might just go for a 7+ and stick £500 in my pocket! I've been SIM only since my contract on my 5 ran out and prefer it so I'd be buying the phone outright, but jesus £1150 is a lot of cash for mobile phone, my MacBook Pro was only £500 more than that!

Android would work too, it’s just not worth it for us.

As opposed to being locked in to Android?
Hmm, a lot harder to do ime.In our household we have had devices with all sorts of OS's over the past couple of years, and both microsoft or google services seem to work an ios, android, osx or windows rather easily.
But, as I said, if you don't mind the cost, it's a solid eco system, to me it just feels a bit too outdated to have to buy every device of them to use videochat, something we've had and used on our computers for almost a decade before...
