So back to the iPhones not applications or other phones.

Which is the smartest buy of the range currently?

iPhone 7?
I don't see the benefit of the 8, and the X has a better screen but hard to justify the extra cost for just that.

That's my thoughts - and it as a plus.
Financieal offers from EE price the 7+ v 6S+ extremely closely (sub £2pcm over 24months all in cost). To make it why wouldn't you get a 7.

8 is a LOT more on contract to the £/pcm territory that I simply think no that's just far too much to justify it. The x will have to be a step up again

Very little between the spec from 7 to 8, display and camera look the same, wireless charging on the 8 but that's slow, may as well be plugged in overnight. A10 or A11 chip.
And the memory options are double on the 8.

Depends what you're upgrading from and how much storage you require.

Probably the 8+. It has most of the features of the X but a lot cheaper. I'm still holding out for the X just because I want the larger screen but don't want the extra footprint of the 7/8 + models.

I'd say the 8 is the smart buy right now. It has most of the features of the X but is cheaper and available to buy. Although the headline specs aren't much better than the 7 the A11 chip is a big step up. If you are planning on keeping the device for a long time the 8 will be supported longer.

decided i can't be bothered changing. I'll run my 6+ into the ground and hope for a flip iPhone next year.

Looks like I will be doing the same, running my iphone 6 plus until next year.

I have an Apple environment at home, I have to say last year's headphone socket change disappointed me and so I just kept the 6 plus. This year's selection haven't improved that position, not interested in the Qi charging or smaller battery size in the 8 plus. X is a bit gimmicky so I may wait to see if it grows on me.

Unfortunately, a lot of my friends who have Iphones won't be upgrading either. Samsung S8 seems to be a good alternative

Seen it elsewhere, it's a bit tryhard and I'm not even an Apple zealot.

I'm not going to bother upgrading either. There's not enough about the 8 to make me want to upgrade from my 6S+, the only real notable feature above the 7 is wireless charging and that's not worth paying the (significant) premium for.

Bit of a weird cycle this time around for me... 8 feels like a red-headed stepchild compared to the X, premium pricing with last years specs. The X is a first gen product which has too many things about it that don't sit well (the notch, the bezel, loss of TouchID, etc) plus astronomically premium pricing.

Can't help but feel next years XS, XX or whatever it's called will be the one to go for.

I’d quite like an X+ but there doesn’t appear to be one.

I just bought one of these and it’s fantastic.

Another battery effectively on the back of the phone and really not too heavy or chunky.

When battery on phone gets low click a button on the case and the case charges a full battery back into the phone. It’s brilliant I can’t believe it’s so cheap. Very impressed. No more running out half way through the day!

Vodafone just offered me; 8+
20GB data
Unlimited calls, texts
Phone damage insurance
£55 pm £16 upfront
Business deal

Given the insurance element is circa £8 pm it's a pretty good deal.

Plus VAT of course, so that works out at £1600+ over two years. Personally I'd buy the phone and get a SIM-only deal.

I think if you have an SE/6/6S then sticking with what you have is probably the smart not-buy at the moment. The practical gains are so minimal that the value just doesn't exist, in my ever so humble opinion. Apple haven't jumped the shark yet but with the X they're certainly strapping on their water skis and saying 'eyyyyy'.

Or buy phone yourself - £799

Get a Vodafone sim only on same plan for £20 per month and save yourself some money. If you can't afford the initial outlay, get a 0% credit card and pay that off monthly.

Cheaper and you are not tied to a long contract.

I was nearly in that position of not buying as have 6s but decided in the end to upgrade to the 8 purely on the ip67 rating as the rain has come close to damaging the 6s when I have been out with the dog with the wrong jacket.

I cant justify the £999 price when I but the phone direct from apple.

Also whats uk peoples expected delivery on apples site for people who have ordered the 8?

I ordered mine on the pre-order day quite early on, and got a text saying that it will be delivered tomorrow

These phones never seem to have game changing updates anymore. Once they had front facing FaceTime cameras and GPS etc it’s just been more of the same.

I tend to just get whatever iPhone is out when I’m due an upgrade, that’s exactly what Apple want. People like me tied in by calendars and contacts an iTunes and the cloud just getting a new Apple device when the time comes. I don’t mind though because they’re easy to use and do what I want.

If the iPhone 8 had the full display I might be tempted to upgrade early but as it is, I’ll probably end up with an iPhone 9 now that I’ve a 7 plus.
