Ive had my Silver X since launch day. Seem beautify made, and has a nice weight to it, the whole experience feels very fluid, even the missing home button, and the swipe up to take yo back to the home screen. I love the size of it, coming from a 7 plus. Ive found Face ID to be brilliant. I did have this happen to me today though, which I hope they fix soon - It was only 9 degrees here, bit quite a chilly wind.

I ordered one on launch day, had the expected delivery of 13th to 20th November, and it was delivered yesterday smile

Really pleased with it so far, and really impressed with the facial recognition. Not had a chance to try the camera out yet, but everything else works really nice, fast, and smooth.

In hindsight I wish I went for the silver one now rather than space grey, but not a problem. Scared to death of dropping it though! Now just need to find a nice decent case for it...
Well looks like I spoke too soon. Connected it to iTunes earlier and it told me there was an update, so I set it off and waited for it to complete. During which the phone went into recovery mode, and now won't update or restore and is stuck in recovery mode. Have gone through Apple Support, resetting the phone, tried 3 different USB ports on my Mac, along with 2 different cables just to rule everything out. Now onto another PC (where I've had to download/install iTunes, and now waiting for it to download a 2.75Gb file to see if it will recover on that). If not, looks like a trip to the Apple Store tomorrow FFS. mad,

Edit: Yep, phone is fked.

Hi,

John, a colleague has just had exactly the same. Phone freezes, totally unresponsive - soft reset doesn't fix. Plugged into iTunes and now stuck in recovery mode.

What was your solution?

Took it in to Apple store this morning, they connected it up to one of their MacBooks and the restore worked first time. No idea why it wouldn’t work on 2 different computers at home with different cables, but at least the store got it working. They also ran some diagnostics programme on it to check all was okay, as the error code was pointing to a hardware issue with the dock, but all was ok. At least it’s logged now so they’ll just swap it if any further issues.

Can someone please explain briefly how one checks the time or for missed calls, assuming phone is asleep and I don’t want to unlock the phone.tap it?

It only unlocks when you swipe up so raise to wake or tap to see them but don’t swipe.

And don’t look at it directly when you raise it. Mind you I’d be surprised if it recognised by 4am facebiggrin
Edited to say I think what you are saying is raising it won’t unlock it at all

Received my silver 64gb X today a week earlier than expected and I’m very impressed

FaceID just works perfectly and brilliantly for logins, banking etc... and going back to a home button feels awkward almost instantly after using swipes only

I don’t really notice the notch at all

Genuinely it’s much much faster than my SE which I’m coming from and which didn’t feel slow at all

I had a play with one of these today and thought that it was pretty underwhelming and not a massive step up from the 7+.

It is and it isn't.... I swapped my 7 for an X. In many ways the 7 was the perfect phone for me - waterproof, decent camera, lots of memory. My main uses are email, calendar, about 5 apps, bit of browsing and the phone - so I hardly needed a replacement.

FaceID works better for me than the button (I found the button success rate to be 8/10 dropping to 4/10 when hot) and the additional screen space where the button would normally be feels a bonus. The camera seems an improvement. The 'passive' element of FaceID is good when logging into bank accounts or websites - it probably only saves a fraction of a second, but it feels seamless and easy.

It does appear to have a better battery life (probably not better than your 7+), but, as a wild guess, maybe 20 - 25% better than the 7. Hard to tell comparing a new phone to a year old one.

The biggest downside is the fear of dropping it when they're so costly to repair.

So it could be said to be marginal when the 7 (and 8) are so competent.

Battery life is so dependent on the age of the phone. I was really pleased with my 7+ when I first got it as it lasted for two days with my usage. When I traded it for the X at a year old, I was lucky to get a day out of it.

The X seems to be on a par with the 7+ when new so far, which isn't bad considering it has a bigger screen in a smaller phone.

I've had the iPhone X now since the launch and after a day or two getting use to it I can honestly say its the best phone I've ever owned.

The main thing you notice when you get it out of the box is how heavy it compared to the iPhone 6s and the size of it, I wasn't expecting it to be bigger than the standard 6S/7. Really should of done my research first. I also expected it to come with a wireless charger.......... it doesn't!

There is nothing to knock about the phone except for the ridiculous price. The only slight annoyance is the back camera sticks out a couple of mm.

So far the speed, battery and camera has been amazing.

Totally agree on this, it is a bigger upgrade than I was expecting.

The camera has always annoyed my a bit right back to the 6 - I'd much rather it would sit flat on my desk, but then I guess it would be a rubbish camera.

Is it really that much bigger than the 7. I have come from a 7+ and has been really pleased with how much smaller the X is. I imagined it would be the same size as the standard 6/7, but it has been a while since I have had one of those.

I just had a look and their isn't that much difference - I suppose after 2 years with the 6s it makes a difference.

iPhone 6s - 138.3 x 67.1 - 143g
iPhone X - 143.6 x 70.9 - 174g

It is actually a fair bit bigger and certainly a lot heavier. It shows what a big beast the 7+ is - the X feels tiny in comparison.

Pretty much agree with what you've said there.

I've mostly forgotten about how much I paid, but when I remember it does make me ponder whether or not it's really a £1149 phone (more if you count AppleCare+) I'm holding in my hand. Having said that, I use my phone daily, I almost always carry it, so in that respect the value for money aspect is better than, say, my MBP.

Unfortunately £999+ halo phones are going to be the norm now, at least from Apple but I expect others will follow suit. The price tag hasn't put consumers off, there has been queues outside the stores, etc like the old days.
