Upgraded from an iPhone 7 basically for the photo capability. Was much easier to do than I expected and the photo app and camera is a major advance.

I was also impressed how easy it was to return the 7 to factory as new capability ad I am giving it to someone. Took two minutes. I do not think the other capabilities are any kind of major advance. Do not miss the home button as the gestures are fine.

One thing that was a bit confusing was checking which apps are active and how to deactivate them. Swipe up and hold and apps cascade will appear with series of minuses, then you can deactivate them. Overall am quite happy with the X.

Unless you have an issue with a particular app, “deactivating” them serves no purpose other than slowing app opening/running.

Depends on the personal configuration of background app refresh, as well as other privacy settings such as location usage as a single example - i.e. only when using the app etc... so there are other advantages

Well I've had iphones since day dot. Never scratched a screen other than tiny superficial scratches.

1 month with my X and it has a dirty big scratch down the middle (I don't even know how I did it).

I know google'ing will always find something, but it seems these X screens are much softer than previous ones.

I'll keep an eye out for that. Not crazy about the all glass case, so got a silicone cover. Heard of a number fo them cracking when dropped.

I went 2 years with my iPhone 6 Plus without smashing it. Had my 8 Plus since launch day and I have a very thin hairline crack the width of the phone. Like you, no idea how it's happened.

Damn - not good.

But a useful heads up for the rest of us. I keep mine in a Beyzacase Zero (a thin leather envelope), but do worry about dropping it as it's a slippery sucker when being used.

Folio cases didn't work for me on the X as the microphone used for noise cancelling gets covered up and then the call sounds muffled.

The phone shop near me will pop a new screen in for £299.95

I agree the my X does seem to be picking up scratches on the screen far more easily than any of my previous iPhones.

About to embark across asia with the X. Currently got the little silicone case with the fitted plastic screen protector.

Any recommendations for a decent waterproof case?

Tempered glass screen protector fitted the moment I took it out of the Apple box crew checking in.

I also fitted a thin transparent case to mine, which is already scratched a lot. I get the whole "preserving your girlfriend for the next guy" argument but since Apple kit seems to be more sensitive to condition when it comes to selling it on, I don't know why people don't bother with screen protectors, etc?

But the phone is essentially waterproof already - why the need??

I use a regular Apple silicone case on my X with no screen protector as I really dislike them and had zero issues with the screen, it’s still perfect and has been dropped from waist height onto all sorts of hard surfaces like pavement, ceramic tile, hardwood floor etc... without any issues or damage at all to anything

Tempered glass protector and a UAG case from new, my phones always get snapped up by friends/family due to the out of the box condition I keep them in.

I wonder how much truth there is the rumour about the X being discontinued? Surely it'll just get replaced with whatever Apple do next, X1 or XS etc?

All people are saying is that, rather than become the second or third tier iPhone on sale, as the iPhone 7 now is, the iPhone X will go out of production, with its replacement coming in higher and lower end versions.

Daily Fail and various other 'media' outlets saying the X is a flop, hence it's being culled. laugh

No, because 'XS', 'X2' or whatever they are going to call the 2018 iPhone will probably be almost exactly the same with a slightly better processor and camera.

Like anyone who bought an X - an entirely new iPhone - didn't realise they were beta testing a new direction. The brilliance of Apple is getting consumers to pay (a lot) for their market research.
