iPhone X Reviews
Discussion
I’m yet to be persuaded that planned obsolescence actually exists. There was a study recently (can’t find the link offhand) examining this very thing in relation to Apple devices and the evidence pointed firmly towards it being a myth.
Software does become more sophisticated and powerful, so newer features may well not be supported or be a poorer user experience on older devices. That’s the price of progress.
I think the lack of X reviews, especially on forums are probably a result of people getting fed up with being mocked and berated for their choice of device. It gets very boring after a while. I’m not saying that’s happening here.
Anyway. I’m still finding the X excellent. The form factor and screen really are stand out features. Face ID is really, really slick.

It depends how you define obsolescence - they certainly plan the end of support, for both the hardware and the OS on particular platforms. For business users, that means they should move on.I'm still running a 4S on iOS7. Works fine. Would like a new one but the prices have taken a leap into territory where you suddenly wake up and think about all the other things you could buy. If a 256GB iP8 was £500 I'd do it without giving it a second thought, but £849 is a joke. Given the popularity of these things, despite their prices, I'm starting to wonder if the rest of the population are living in some parallel universe populated by magic money-stting, rainbow-pissing unicorns.

I bought my SE on release day for £389, that was about 18mths ago
I have today ordered my iPhone X, White, 64gb
I’m with EE and I normally do sim only at £22mth for 50gb and unlimited everything else ... this deal on the X was for £61mth
The way I see it is that’s an extra £39 mth (plus £100 upfront) over my current non-handset deal which over 24mths is an extra £1036 which is only marginally more than what I would pay for buying the handset outright - seems a no brainier to me ... it was an upgrade deal as in essence I am paying interest at £1.50 a month for 2yrs!
I should have the phone in the next 7days

Yeah, but even the monthly amounts make me think, nah, I have better uses for £30-40 a month when all it's going to do is give me a slightly shinier version of what I already have.
Well, so do I, but this is the age of the "Only" £8 a week tvs, "only" £50 a month phones and "only" £450 a month cars. Everyone wants the newest thing and bugger to the outright cost, because someone's always willing to finance it to you for an "affordable" amount...Fair enough if you have the money to do it, i just worry about the ones that can't and how that ended last time...
Turned out that Carphone Warehouse was a good shout. They have supplied my new SIM free X (from which I write) and the Apple store is still showing a 10 day wait. I’ve cancelled the order.
The X is good so far. It needed an iOS update to 11.1 and is performing well. Seems quick and slick.

Early days but are you gonna run it without a case / screen protector? Or are you not fussed about using it until such time as you get those things? The X is good so far. It needed an iOS update to 11.1 and is performing well. Seems quick and slick.

Older devices do slow down. Encryptions the big factor, especially as most apps now communicate over a secure channel. Newer devices have very efficient encryption modules but older apps don't always know how to to pass that overhead to the newer device in the most efficient manner which is why there is usually a load of app updates around the realese of a device or iOS update.
This affects android as well but security isn't enforced in the same way.
This is completely bks. This affects android as well but security isn't enforced in the same way.
The reason apple devices grind to a halt after a few years is because they force older devices to be updated to increasingly bloated and resource intensive iOS updates/versions when they know the older phones can't handle it.
As a result people get increasingly frustrated with the slowdown and feel like they need a new phone.
Its genius, but dick move.
