Samsung Galaxy S9

this is the same dull argument trolled out on every mobile thread though isn't it.
what was the difference from the galaxy s to s2 to s3 to s4 to s5 to s6 to s7 to s8 to s9
what was the difference from the original iphone to iphone 3g to 3gs to 4 to 4s to 5 to 5s to 6 to 6s to 7 to 8 to X.
Each incremental step from the original to the next, and probably the version after that or even after that is tiny. There is never a justification to pay £500+ for the next in the line of phones, but that's just a ridiculous way of looking at it, so please just STFU about "I can't justify it" just because you have the model before or one before that and can't afford/don't want to upgrade.
Nobody was making an argument, dull or otherwise. I think we're just observing that what could happily have been described as a fairly predictable and common 2-year upgrade cycle is making less sense to a lot of people. what was the difference from the galaxy s to s2 to s3 to s4 to s5 to s6 to s7 to s8 to s9

Your track record of appearing to want all threads to be mutual back-slapping exercises is getting to be both predictable and tiresome. Is there anything else you'd like us to not discuss or have opinions or feelings on?

Gotr my S9+ today and the upgrade from my S7 egde seems to be well worth it
Can you expand on this a little?Certainly, if my S7 Edge exploded then I'd definitely replace it with an S9+ but despite the efforts of the nice woman in CPW, I really struggled with it.

And you consistently manage an overly aggressive, "agree with me or you are an idiot" tone I try to avoid.Your track record of appearing to want all threads to be mutual back-slapping exercises is getting to be both predictable and tiresome. The two year cycle gets trotted out on every mobile phone thread and has been for several years. It really does have very little to do with the s9 which has about as much improvement over the previous model as any before it has.
The s7>s8 gave us a slightly bigger screen, and the usual processor improvements.
The s8>s9 is giving a dual camera, super slo mo and the usual processor improvements.
The camera improvements on the s9+ are massive, certainly enough to tempt me away from iOS. It seems this is the first android phone I have seen quite so many iphone users saying they will switch over for.
Also I think you will also find my track record is much more like the annoying argumentative idiot with a tenancy to argue either side of any argument depending on which side of bed I got up on. I'm usually the last person to ever be accused of back-slapping or agreeing with any consensus.
If I am arguing with you, it is quite simply because you are wrong and I am right!

I'm now all setup on my S9+ after being an iPhone users for 8 years. First impressions: complicated and confusing but slowly getting the hang of it.
Yep, at first it will be, then it will become intuitive and easy. When I was using an iPhone 7 and a OnePlus 3T at the same time, I found that once I got the hang of Android, I had no preference between it and iOS so it was purely down to which device I preferred. I abandoned the iPhone 7 when I started using the OnePlus 3T's dual sim feature (UK Business, Portugal Residence). I gave both away and bought an S8+ to get the best device with dual sim and haven't looked back. I now have the S9+ and find the incremental updates from the S8+ rather nice and worth the upgrade, to me.
I'm all up and running. Nice step up from the iPhone 6s.
The Android switch method didn't work for me so just did the Samsung suggested way to connect the 2 phones using the cable and wait for everything to zap across.
A bit of learning from iOS but no major issues at the moment.
Any recommendations for wireless chargers

Though I used a flat one, and built a stand out of Lego with my daughter

I had iPhones for years. Decided to swap my iPhone 6 for a note8. I spent the first week desperately trying to make Android look and work like IOS. After giving up, I started to get the hang of Android and haven't had any problems since. Works very well and I do like being able to modify it to suit my preferences. Found it really easy to do considering I'm a complete technophobe. Elroy Blue said:

Genuine question, What additional customisation or preferences have you found to be useful?? (As background I’ve been an iOS user since 2007 when I picked up the original iPhone 2G and while I have dabbled briefly with multiple android, rim and windows handsets I’ve always gone back to iOS quite quickly after really struggling to use or do anything meaningful in android - I would love an S9 to try against my X but it’s a large lump of cash for a likely (from my history) doomed experiment!)

Like the poster above I spent ages trying to get it to work like iOS, but once I embraced it I found it to be much more flexible. I can install apps that aren't approved by the walled garden like popcorn time for movies. I like being able to clean up my home screen and move app icons out of the way to actually see my wallpaper, I had wireless charging with the S6 way before apple had it. I now have a S7 edge, and I love having expandable memory, something you simply can't have in an iPhone. Apps like xHP (gearbox software flashing tool) aren't available on iOS. And Google do a very good job of integrating software. Before I even had an android phone I was using chrome on my iPhone because my bookmarks carried across from my PC. I was a bit of an apple fanboy a few years ago, iPod, Macbook Pro & iPhone combo. I now only use my Macbook Pro. But that's not as locked down as an iPhone and I can install programs on that if I like, plus I can dual boot. if iPhone opened up their walled garden, I could consider coming back. But they won't.
I initially tried nova launcher and others similar because I wanted the little notification bubbles. Eventually stuck with the launcher and skin the phone came with. I now find the Android style of notifications work really well. My car will read out text messages when they arrive. However Apple didn't allow a certain techno thingy which prevented it from working. Bought a Samsung and all the features started working straight away.
Apple just seen to lock down their phones and it's their way or nothing. There are so many different apps and widgets that can completely transform the look and function of your phone, it was enjoyable having a party around. It basically comes down to your personal preferences
