I initially tried nova launcher and others similar because I wanted the little notification bubbles. Eventually stuck with the launcher and skin the phone came with. I now find the Android style of notifications work really well. My car will read out text messages when they arrive. However Apple didn't allow a certain techno thingy which prevented it from working. Bought a Samsung and all the features started working straight away.
Apple just seen to lock down their phones and it's their way or nothing. There are so many different apps and widgets that can completely transform the look and function of your phone, it was enjoyable having a party around. It basically comes down to your personal preferences
Apple have always been "It's our way or nothing." and he seem to get away with it more than any other company, can you imagine if Google had released a speaker which only worked with Google Music...

Anyway, I digress. If you want to change the look of your phone without changing the launcher then the Samsung Themes store have some nice themes to checkout. You can trial them first before buying.

Would appreciate feedback about the camera, particularly still quality and the 2x zoom facility.

Got my S9+ today sim free from Argos as I get 8% discount and you get a free Samsung BT speaker.

Very nice, is it worth the money? hell no, but its what you pay for this sort of stuff and I wanted it. My daughter has been after my S7 edge for a while so that's all the excuse I needed.

Screen is awesome, the s7e is a great screen but this is better and I don't think it could be any faster at opening apps. the only thing not natural at the moment is the finger print sensor, its nicely located but for the last two years I have been using my thumb on the front.

Yes its a lot of cash for what it is but if you are even remotely thinking about it you will not be disappointed.

When my daughter gets home from school and I giver the s7e all in its box with the original headphones like new I will be officially the coolest dad in the world for oh I don't know, 30 minutes or so, then I will suggest she does some studying before dinner for her GCSE's and I will be back to the same old boring tosser again, but i will enjoy the 30 minutes of greatness.

S9. I'd also take the S8 over the Pixel.

I've just broken my second S6 but decided enough is enough, so instead of an S9 I bought a Samsung J5 for £150.

So far I can't see any reason why I'd spend hundreds more on an S9, and wish I hadnt bothered with the second S6 to be honest.

The only thing it hasn't got so far is wireless charging but I'd given up on that on the S6 becaise it meant I couldn't use a decent case
.

Saw the Pixel 2 is supposed to have a better camera than the S9, still.

Or maybe better processing but hardware not as good.

Am looking forward to getting an S9+ next month.

I choose the P10 Plus over an S8, and would do over a S9. Just far too much money to spend on a phone. My P10 Plus at £449 works fine for me, I don't think I need anything more.

I'm a massive fan of Huawei and feel EMUI is a lot better to work with than Touchwiz/Experience. Also have the same opinion in regards to price. Personally, the Mate 10 Pro feels far better to use than the 9. Build quality is almost equal, although Samsung may take that, not by much though.

There's a very good video by MKBHD on YT outlining how the S9/+ is so far the most complete Samsung device for those that like Samsung, but unfortunately it's just not for me.

Thanks, some others to consider in the process then I will have a look.

Isn't that a subjective opinion that everyone has to consider that will have a varying answers depending upon needs, affordability for the purchaser etc?

For me, spending any money at all on alcohol is a complete and utter waste. Most wouldn't agree. smile

My father uses his phone for making calls, checking emails, using WhatsApp. That's it. He doesn't need a phone with a good camera, or an amazing screen, or relatively decent sound...he has an iPhone 7 I gave to him. He can afford anything he wants without blinking an eye but why spend money on what you do not need?

Others, like me, will find the S9+, iPhone X etc inexpensive for the value they provide for what we want to get from them. I really like my S9+ and do feel it is a worthwhile upgrade from the S8+. I'm seeing a screen that pops a little more, I've already produced better images. So all good. I would recommend it to anyone who wants a 'complete' mobile media device, who would use all of its features and for whom the price is not an extravagance.

I remember when I got my Lumia 920 and everyone said it was far too big to be practical. Funny how things change.

Can you explain exactly what you mean by that.
