Samsung Galaxy S9
Discussion
Been an iPhone user for 8 years. Currently on an iPhone 6+ which I bought new on release and is now over 3 years old. The camera is knackered, it has difficulty charging and the silence rocker doesn’t work properly.
I’ve just pre-ordered the S9+ from Samsung and really looking forward to trying Android for the first time. Hopefully I’ll enjoy it!!

for your last few weeks of owning a 6+... get a toothpick and have a rummage around in the charging port (carefully!) will charge find after this.I’ve just pre-ordered the S9+ from Samsung and really looking forward to trying Android for the first time. Hopefully I’ll enjoy it!!

The screen is identical to the S8 but that was already Samsung's top end AMOLED. The iPhone X (my Family all have X's) did well using their tweaks to the Samsung OLED lower res screen that they use but by all accounts, Samsung have tweaked their AMOLED and it is as near to perfection as the human eye can now distinguish according to DisplayMate.
Add in the improvements to chip and speakers plus fingerprint sensor location and it does look like the S9 will be the benchmark mobile for 2018.

Sky seem to be offering some of the best deals atm. S9 for £28pm https://www.sky.com/shop/mobile/phones/samsung + Data and free, unlimited calls/texts if you have their TV but their contracts are a bit funny. Swap 12 means you have to send the phone back but is ideal if you want to change every 12 months. Swap 24 offers the cheapest price.

I'm finding the 2+ model offering we now get all from all the manufacturers to be irritating. The standard versions (non XL/+) are the sweet spot for me in terms of size but I if I go for a standard version I potentially will have less ram; a lower quality screen; and an inferior camera. It's putting me off going from standard S7 to standard S9 when my upgrade is due.
I know what you mean, Sony were the only company which did a smaller version of their flagship but with the same specs and called it the compact. From a usability point of view and being an S8+ owner, the fingerprint scanner is the only let down on an otherwise great phone. Considering you unlock your phone lots and lots of time every day, its a big factor in day to day usage. The facial recognition is only really successful in good light - otherwise its a coin flip whether it unlocks or not. And once you add a protective cover, accessing the fingerprint scanner on the S8's is simply a pain in the butt. I find myself keying in the passcode to unlock more times than I would like.
So for those thinking of jumping onto S8 models, just be wary of that. The phone is superb in every other way I might add, but the S9 is just going to be that bit better in day to day usage, just because of the fingerprint scanner alone.
I would also look into the Oneplus 6 which should be out shortly. Should be around the £450-£500 mark and they make fantastic phones. I'm expecting the Oneplus 6 to be a huge hit so it should go an anyone's shortlist. Best bang for buck around IMO.
