Samsung Galaxy S9
Discussion
Think the S9 is finally going to tempt me away from Apple...had various iPhones for the last 10 years!
Any experiences moving stuff across from iCloud to Google Drive? Got a few shared albums to transfer.
I’ve read I need to turn iMessage and FaceTime off being swapping the SIM. Anything else?

Seriously considering chopping in my old S7 edge for the S9.
Carphone warehouse looks like the best deal with the S9 sim free for £324 after trade in of my S7 edge.
£599 on vodafone with 30 day sim, cancel sim, trade in S7 edge for £175 and claim the extra £100 trade in on a S9.
Been looking at the Carphone deals too. £100 extra on the trade in would beat eBay prices.Carphone warehouse looks like the best deal with the S9 sim free for £324 after trade in of my S7 edge.

Do you have a link to the £599 deal? I can only see that on a 12 month contract. Not sure how cancellation would work on that?
30 day SIM deal is £699 as far as I can tell.

Releasing a new phone every 12 months is a piss take. For what? It's a glorified Camera & Emoji upgrade for all that extra cash...well woo-feckin-hoo.
The sooner consumers start boycotting this annual rip off the better.
I've an S7 Edge and there is zero innovation even in the S9 that's worth the kind of cash they are asking.
They've run-out of ideas - that much is now glaringly obvious.

You're assuming they are targeting the S7 and S8 owners. In reality, they are just creating their 2018 phone offering to everyone and anyone who may be interested in getting a new handset. You can't afford to not release a new phone each year in such a competitive market. Maybe Samsung should have stopped at the S7 and let their mobile phone division die a slow and painful death? The sooner consumers start boycotting this annual rip off the better.

If both Pepsi and Coca-Cola stopped advertising, they'd have a net gain due to the savings made in advertising costs but they both have to advertise because the other one advertises.
Flagship phone manufacturers have to release a new flagship every year because the competition will release a new flagship phone every year.
It's game theory stuff. There's loads about this kind of thing on the Intertubes and it's fascinating reading if you get the time

£599 on a 30 day would have been a great price.

Their job is to make new phones for people to buy. If people don't buy them they fail. The idea that they shouldn't release a new phone just to satisfy you is quite ridiculous.

I did it a few years ago. Wasn't too hard. I had a Gmail account already but you should be able to make one and sync your contacts to google drive. Then you simply re-import them on your Android phone when you log in with the same account. Any experiences moving stuff across from iCloud to Google Drive? Got a few shared albums to transfer.

Similar with pictures, though I didn't have many, just installed google photos or whatever and had them sync'd to google drive where they stayed. I suppose you could down load them again if you wanted.
Music was a bit different, but I think they make a program or its a web interface that helps you transfer your itunes library over to google play music. I managed to transfer nearly everything I'd purchased from iTunes as well and I didn't have to re-purchase! I'm sure you'll find something describing the process if you just google for transfering from iOS to Android.
So yeah, its not as difficult as it used to be.
IMO Samsung phones are so overrated. Great on Day one but then inevitably TouchJiz becomes a pile of grinding turds and updates take forever to appear if you have to wait for your carrier.
Me, OnePlus are a good shout. Same ridiculous hardware (OP 5T has 8 gig of RAM for godsake!) and other great features like Dash charge and a pretty vanilla attempt at Android. They're pretty swift on the uptake with android updates as well; I got Oreo before my works S7 even got updated to Nougat!
Huawei are another good bet. Awesome hardware and although EMUI is a touch heavy, I think its perfectly good and the latest versions appear to have gotten rid of the chugging that used to happen. OH's Huawei P9 on latest software is a joy to use and it only cost £240!
Samsung and Apple are just over priced... but its like posh german cars, there's an element of paying for the badge and the image and the prestige.

I’ve looked into a few Android handsets from different manufacturers over the last couple days but pretty much decided on the S9. The lure of the flagship phone and generous trade in is helping too
I'm not entirely sold on the S9 yet - I had a good look at an S8 last night (my girlfriend has one) and while I like that very much, the S9 needs to be something else special and so far I'm not sufficiently impressed.
I've got until May to decide as that's when my S7 is up for renewal... I usually upgrade early but I'll try to hold off...

Current have a S7 Edge. It's been an absolute brilliant phone. In terms of size is the S9 similar?
I'm hoping when it comes to upgrading. The S9 will be a natural successor.
