What, you can literally save any doc locally on the iPad itself?
Not sure this is what you are after.

I have manuals etc. in iBooks but I can now access them in my home desktop folder, also word, excel and Apple pages etc.

You're thinking about the MacBook Air, I think he was talking about the MacBook, which is 2304x1440.
I think the MacBook only supports resolutions of up to 1440x900, the extra pixels are used for the "retina" thing. I could be wrong, but I'm basing it on this page:

https://www.apple.com/uk/macbook/specs/

I do all my computing at home so size/weight doesn't matter hugely

I'm talking about being able to store any file you like on the device itself.

You can't do this, as far as I can see.

Basic MacBook and entry level MacBook Pro are the same price. MBP is better in everyway unless you *really* value the weight saving the MB offers .
Wow, I didn't realise that! I'm sure there was a few hundred pound difference when I bought mine in 2015! As mentioned above, you really have to want the portability of the 12" display to go for the MacBook.

Yea I hadn't clicked they were the same either, I'd been looking in the refurbished store which often has sub 1k MB. At the new price it's a no brainer, for me it gives a higher screen resolution too (1680x1050)

I bought both the 13" MacBook Pro and the 12" MacBook and have being using both for a while but I really love the 12, not just for the portability when you are out and about but even using it on your lap whilst watching tv is great. That said, the MBP is a fantastic laptop and the display is even better than the MacBook 12 (much brighter); the OH says two laptops is an extravagance so the MBP is to be sold.
