Huawei p20 pro
Discussion
I've found the camera to be one of the strongest points - indoor and outdoor.
My only couple of issue with it is the AI mode that sometimes over-enhances the pictures and gives far too much saturation - particularly if you happen to have a blue sky or green fields around you
and the portrait mode - again sometimes a little heavy handed.
But for indoor pictures of my little one it's been faultless.

I've decided to send mine back. Just couldn't get on with the camera at all - it doesn't seem to take great pictures of people indoors, and having a 1 year old that seems to be 90% of my photography needs at the moment. Research suggests the pics are best when taken RAW and post processed, but unfortunately I don't have the time or equipment so will stick with Pixel. Shame, as really liked it otherwise (display, functionality and battery life are superb).
Perhaps buy a camera then?I have a Mate 10 Pro and find the camera to be excellent, indoors or outdoors. For quick in the moment snaps, it's superb. I had a Pixel XL before this which broke a lot, but when it did work it did not take anywhere near as high quality photos. Having said that, if I want to take high quality images of my children, I use my Canon EOS 1200D which is now nearly 4 years old but still obviously trumps any phone camera. TBH though, for still, well lit images of say landscapes, it's hard to distinguish between Mate 10 Pro and 1200D photos, which says a lot about the phones camera quality. For fast moving images of say kids running about inside, it's very very easy to spot the difference.
Thanks for the input, guys.
I have compared directly photos from the Pixel 2 and P20 Pro, taken at the same time. The P20 Pro can take some good photos, but the results when photographing my son are not as good as the Pixel 2 results. The P20 Pro images do lack some of the detail of the Pixel 2 shots, possibly because the contrast seems to be higher which means granular detail is lost.
The hardware is superior on the P20 Pro, so I think it must be that the Google post processing is superior to Huawei's. A bit of online research suggests that the P20 Pro will take better photos if you shoot in Pro Mode and post process the RAW output files using professional software. I.e., not relying on the software to process the photos.
I do have an old Nikon P300 digital camera, but I've found that most of the time, the results from the Pixel 2 are just as good, plus you have the convenience of being able to instantly edit, save and share the photos via Google photos shared albums, and not having to carry a camera round.

Pro mode seems to work just fine, and is significantly less umm Instagram in its post processing. The photos sync up to Google Photos just fine, albeit with a teensy delay, and you can do whatever you need to from there.
End of the day, its all subjective and personal choice P.S. The Pixel 3 is imminent

I did reduce the beautification and disable AI as it was invoking portrait mode all the time for some reason. This did help. I also tried pro mode, manually adjusting the exposure and white balance seemed to get far better results. That was the crux of it really - I don't want to have to do that every time to get the shots to come out to my liking. I agree there is a significant degree of subjectivity to this and perhaps I just like the Pixel 2 style I've been used to.
Going to wait until Google announce the Pixel 3 and either buy one or get a reduced price Pixel 2.

I've had no issue with the photos, I've turned the beauty option down though. My other half commented how great my photos were on our last trip, she wants a phone like mine now, as her iPhone takes poor picturesGoing to wait until Google announce the Pixel 3 and either buy one or get a reduced price Pixel 2.

Is there an equivalent to apple airplay on these?
What do you want the music to be sent 'to'? I think there are a variety of ways of doing it, I certainly can Mirror Share & Stream to, as well as Chrome Cast etc etc....Gassing Station | Computers, Gadgets & Stuff | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
