OP uses original sized uploads which don't compress.
If you do that it will only "backup" about 800 - a lot less if you use raw

Not if you pay for more storage.

Thats usually fine for most people, unless you want to print them and frame them.

Mine are set to high quality, which for social media is perfectly adequate.

My other option of the Clone app, would take everything across as it is

I see the P20 Pro has been dropped by Huawei for their monthly security update... seems they will get some quarterly updates but still, this may be the final thing to happen to make me upgrade my phone soon. I

I have no issues with the phone whatsoever, but i guess, banking and stuff becomes a little more risky if the updates stop

anyone else see this?

That's odd because I've had about 4 updates in the past week or so...

Still no EMUI 10 though.

I saw something from reviewers of the P40 saying that they used YouTube and maps on the web app as they couldn't install it. I think your social media apps will be fine.
Thanks, I've just been reading a review. It seems the camera is incredible, which I use a lot.
Just the whole Google thing leaving me unsure.
Same here, I intend ditching my compact camera as the phone has pretty much taken over and the P40 camera just seems brilliant, but I'm not 'techy' enough to understand what the Google thing actually means in day to day reality

The lack of google is what stopped me getting it - It's easier to use Google Play to install things as you know it's more secure than to not otherwise you have to take a leap of faith in installing apps.

It's the banking/bill apps that do it for me if they aren't supported. Got 3 different credit cards and current accounts and I just can't face again trying to remember all of those user names and passwords compared to a quick fingerprint read.

Decent review here from T3 that focuses on the difficulties / work arounds / options when it comes to Apps & the P40.

https://www.t3.com/reviews/huawei-p40-pro-review-f...

So lots of workarounds available, but some apps just won't work, particularly it seems with paid for apps.

Banking apps not working that might be an issue. but is it a 'might not work' or will not work?
will the app makers just produce a Huawei version, it assume it would be doable given the bulk of the code would still be 'android' and Huawei will be squirreling hard to replicate the missing google bits.

Like I said i'm not phone techy enough to know if it will be/is a problem

It’s the P40 that hasn’t got google.

Yes but what is being suggested is that they are launching, next week, potentially - an updated p30 pro

So worksaround the google ban by being a p30....

interesting.

My upgrade is due to next week so will see what comes

Everything im seeing points to a new p30 pro with improved CPU and RAM, potentially upgraded camera.

I think this is that I'll go for, seems a decent compromise

Been going back and forth about what phone to get next, I'm going to go for the Samsung S20 +.
The ultra isn't worth the extra money over the +, and the lack of Google on p40 rules it out.

I've gone for the p30 pro.

Couldn't see how the S20+ justified the price hike other than 5g
