I think i might have to get an xr model, currently have a 6 which i have had from release, so got to be 4 years surely. Every year i am disappointed but my poor old 6 is battered, its like triggers broom hehe several new screens, batteries, charging issues and now the microphone only works when phone is on loud speaker.

i have been looking at getting a used x but the prices people are asking are simply insane its just not worth buying used.

I really dont think ill notice the screen quality difference, especially considering i work outside , always have a screen protector and mine end up pretty scratched pretty quick!

I am also astounded how the public have been conditioned into accepting contracts which are basically £100 a month! i think ill be sticking to sim only and buying outright.

I had the 8. Looking at the new phones the only thing I wanted was a slightly bigger screen.

The 8+ went down £100 so I bought an 8+ and my wife got the 8 as an upgrade to her 6.

8+ great value and specs compared to the new phones. XR is close but 8+ slightly better screen and camera.

I use my phone a lot but still can’t imagine (believe people are) paying 1k for a phone.

On the max at around £1200 it works out at £1.64 a day over 2 years which I think is great value for a device that is used loads.

If you actually look at how many things a phone does/can do I still think it's a pretty good deal.

It replaces
Satnavs
Trips to the bank
Compact camera
Letters
MP3 Player
Television

Did you factor in the value that it has after 2 years?

If it's worth about half in two years time, that would be £0.82 a day. Not bad.

I often manage between 3-5 hours of screen time, so that would make it around £0.16-0.28 per hour of use. Not so bad, really. An espresso costs me £1.50 and lasts about ten mins hehe

This comes up a lot but there are a lot of phones which do this and the significant majority of them do it for significantly less.

Naturally, people are entitled to spend their money on whatever they choose but the use case isn't unique.

I've got the Xs on order and have had delivery confirmation for tomorrow. I'm currently using an S8+, is there any (easy) way of getting everything from the Samsung to the iPhone?

Thanks

Download "Move to iOS" from the google play store and it walks you through the process.
Does everything via bluetooth.

Yup, you are correct. There is a lot of cognitive bias when it comes to people justifying how much they spend on iPhones and Apple equipment in general.

The simple reality is that if you buy into the Apple ecosystem, or simply just want an iPhone for whatever reason, then this is the cost of admission.

I mean, it won't get delivery confirmation till tomorrow hehe

Have you clicked on the 'order status' link in the original order confirmation email?

Yes, i panicked there - i was exoecting an email to tell me it had dispatched but I signed in and it was dispatched this morning smilesmile

Panic over. It's being delivered to my work and i'd be royally pissed off if I had to wait till Monday for it! hehe

Sadly, iOS 12 appears to have buggered up music playback on CarPlay. Podcasts work fine, but songs refuse to play.... Grrrrr
Mine did that yesterday morning but i unplugged the phone, accepted the "what's new in ios12" messages and then it worked (and has done since).
Thank you! That did the trick - I don't use the iPhone much directly for music - only when I'm in the car, so hadn't seen the what's new message!

Thanks, look like the move could be pretty straightforward for me. Hopefully I can report back tomorrow morning with feedback on the handset.

Thanks

I've got a 256Gb XS in space grey coming tomorrow.

My girlfriend gets 8% off from Currys so ordered it from them. 8% is quite significant so I was quite pleased with that.

I've currently still got a 6s, so the huge expense feels 'slightly' easier justify. Not sure I'd be upgrading yet if I had an 8 or an X though.

In my mind I think that upgrading every 3 years is about right now, due to the evolutionary rather than revolutionary nature of phones over the last couple of years.

The 'only £xp a day is one way of looking at it, and often how people justify these things.

The other way is to say it's many peoples monthly wage, and in some countries an annual wage or more... for a fking phone!!!! smile

Completely agree and it’s certainly a crazy the price! But also resale holds their value well. I’ve just sold a 3 year old 6s Plus 128gb for £260 to game (I got store credit swapping the PS4 to a pro) or they wanted cash for £200. The phone new was £789 so that’s not bad depreciation for a piece of IT.

My XS Max 128gb arrives today I only ordered yesterday afternoon, I mainly upgraded it for the camera.
