I walk past the Edinburgh apple shop on my way to work, I think there was maybe 5-10 people standing outside. Think the days of massive queues/ hype are over
I drove past the Edinburgh store today at 10am and they had the ropes out for the queue but nobody was there; in fairness the store looked quite busy though. I have been a bit of an Apple fanboy in the past and queued for the iPad 2 in Glasgow......rat840771 said:
Just walked into John Lewis and picked up the XS 256 (with 2 years warranty!)
The fact JL give a two year warranty is mentioned quite often on this thread (JL is my favourite shop for tv's etc.), but Apple are also fully aware that they are obliged under consumer law to cover their products beyond 1 year; I've had a couple of phones fixed/replaced after 12 months by Apple without any issue. Not sure if JL send their phones away for repair, but it's much more convenient for me to get it fixed or replaced while you wait. https://www.apple.com/uk/legal/statutory-warranty/
I’m liking the phone a lot. Screen is great, and the camera is massively better than my iPhone 7.
The setup procedure is great - our old phone next to new phone, then use old phone camera to look at swirly pattern on new phone screen, wait a few minutes and that’s about it. Very impressive.

I'm not sure that analogy really works with phones. I mean, they're all cobbled together in the same place, in the same way, using the same materials, by the same people. They're about as reliable each other, last as long as each other, offer the same features as each other, have the same functionality as each other.
Ah, so more like a Seat and an Audi then?wiggy001 said:

Very impressive, the camera and Face ID is awesome, but I guess it should be for £1150!

How easy are these £1200 quid phone going to be to transfer to a second owner? Has Apple done anything to stop them being attractive to muggers?
Same as always. Can’t do diddly squat without iTunes passwords etc. Just stealing the phone will get you a brick. BrewsterBear said:
My XS Max has arrived and is restored from my X backup. Just awaiting all my apps to transfer, but so far I'm really impressed with extra screen acreage. Lovely bit of kit. I've sold my X to a mate so it's only cost me £500 to upgrade.
How much did you get for your X if you don't mind me asking?Edited by BrewsterBear on Friday 21st September 13:23

Can you explain that process in a bit more detail please? My iPhone XS Max has arrived and I'm just about to backup and then wipe my old iPhone X, and then restore that backup to the XS Max. Is that not how it's done now?The setup procedure is great - our old phone next to new phone, then use old phone camera to look at swirly pattern on new phone screen, wait a few minutes and that’s about it. I can try...
Once you have turned on the new phone, your old phone should display a message saying it's detected a new phone. Put them next to each other, and you then input the old phone PIN onto the new phone. It then displays a funny blue pattern, which you need to view through the camera on the old phone. This then links them together and all your stuff then transfers over. It worked really well, I think you only need to set up your bank cards in the new phone's wallet and maybe a couple of other things (like Face ID) and it's done. Everything then just worked.
Very impressive

You can’t turn off find my iPhone without your iCloud password. And you can even erase it if it’s turned off because it wipes as soon as it powers up.

This blew my mind today. All done automatically without basically having to do anything myself.
