You really do get used to the larger size rather quickly. I went from a 5S to a 6S Plus and it seemed enormous at first but they shrink around your hands.
I'm used to holding my phone in my right hand and my thumb reaching the top left of the screen - i.e., the whole screen is accessible by the thumb of the hand that's holding the phone. I like this. The same is tricky with my OH's 6S (partly because it's a slippy phone - the 8 might be easier as it's glass and feels "stickier" to the touch) and totally impossible on the XS. I'd be happily pay the full XS price for an XS that's 25% smaller.

What XS cases have people bought?
I seen the leather one in Apple and laughed at £55.
The phone needs protecting but when there are cases for £10-30 I think twice as much is a bit expensive.

I got one for about £8 on Amazon. Seems absolutely fine. Wouldn’t be much of a fall protector though it’s more for grip as it’s so damn slippery without.

Had my XS since Friday morning, coming from a 6. Fantastic phone and camera in particular- portrait mode is witch-craft! I ordered an XS Max for my wife though and am really tempted by the extra screen size.

No chance of an Apple store swap, and delivery dates on the max are awkward aaarrgghhh

I wonder if I can find someone to swap lol

Just send it back for a refund. Then get the Max.

This.

Apple are easy about giving cash back within a few days of purchase.

I went for the spigen soft gel case.

I also got the apple store for fit and anti glare Belkin screen for £15 and you can’t even tell it has a screen and a lot better than the glass screens you can get that keep cracking.

Tempered glass screens only crack if you drop the phone, and I'd much sooner they crack and dissipate the shock than the actual even phone screen cracking.

I have a tempered glass screen protector on my 8+, I dropped it and the screen protector smashed but the screen underneath was fine. Pretty good. Though I'm sure with a harder fall it wouldn't help much.

I ordered a black nappa leather Torro folio case from Amazon, I was initially told it would arrive on Wednesday last week, plenty of time before the phone arrived.

I then get an email from Amazon on Wednesday saying it'll now be 6th October for delivery of the Torro case, I knew/hoped I would have my XS Max by then so decided to order a brown leather Snakehive folio case which arrived on Friday.

I then get an email from Amazon on Friday night saying my Torro case has been dispatched, it arrived yesterday, so now I have 2 cases and no phone to go into them!

However, got an email from apple mid-afternoon today to say my phone will be with me tomorrow, i'll then see which case I like the best and send the other one back.

Anyone have any hiccups when restoring an XS Max from a 6+ backup?

Has anyone used wow camera.com before? I’m thinking of buying an iPhone 8 from there, as it’s quite a bit cheaper than anywhere else.

I am interested to hear from those with new X variant phones how they get on with folio cases.

The phone calls on my X suffered with folio cases - I tried two styles.

The Apple case.... when the front piece was folded back and therefore up against the camera lens, the phone calls sounded muffled. This is because there is a microphone in the lens area which is used to reduce background noise on calls - covering this mic with the case's cover also killed the sound quality on calls.

Case two.... same as above, but the magnetic cover meant the camera couldn't focus.

I now use a sleeve from Beyzacases - high quality and decent, but I'd prefer a folio if it worked.

It’s been discussed some pages ago but the official leather case has survived 3 years of abuse including offshore sailing in awful conditions. It’s outlasted many cheap cases on the Mrs’s phone.

As for the tempered glass screen I’ve smashed close to 10 over the 3 years so they’ve been worth the price vs a new screen each time. Just need one for my Xs max now.

The glass screens I get are from primark and cost £2. They chip and crack from just being in my pocket next to keys etc. The belkin equivilent is £30 from apple and I was informed it would still chip. I was advised to go for the thin anti glare, it is brilliant and you can’t even see that there is a protector on the screen.

Got wireless charger delivered today. Witchcraft

As mentioned I’ve ordered a Mous case that should be with me tomorrow or Tuesday.

The YouTube video and review ‘suggest’ it’s the dogs danglees. It also ships with a glass front which I guess like cheap and Bellini ones will crack on the edge given the chance.

I’ll have a further update shortly.

I cannot imagine putting my keys in the same pocket as my phone!

I have a Mous case on my 6S and it's been excellent - I bought a magnetic folio addon from them too which is rubbish but the actual case I have no complaints about.

Or change ideally. Now I have an XS Max I can't practically put it in my pocket anyway, or at least not sit down. #firstworldproblems etc

I've always used a glass screen protector, and from I've read it's even more important on the iPhone X as whilst the screen is less likely to crack/smash when dropped, the trade off is that the surface is "softer" and more likely to scratch. My favourite protector is the Anker Karapax which comes with a plastic template guide to ensure perfect alignment, which from my OCD perspective is a must!
