I’ve not had the issue on beta software.

Surely must be to do with being able to disable the lightning port after an hour of non use (to stop a specific hacking device).

In theory must be easily fixable through software I would assume. But...everyone apparently has the same software.

So is it a hardware batch?

At a guess I assume it’s users that have selected a certain setting which is then causing the issue on select devices rather than a hardware issue.

my old 6 just did this (failed to charge when asleep). Entered Pin and it started charging. It doesn't bother me.

Not excusing Apple but I don't know why anyone wouldn't use wireless charging now that it's available. It's so convenient.

It's not available on the 6 and 7?

I'm guessing
a) it costs money to get a good wireless charger
b) Apple haven't released theirs yet (a year after announcement)
c) it's slower than cable
d) it'd be difficult to carry wireless charger with you everywhere
e) it'd be really expensive to have a separate charger everywhere you need to charge
f) some cases stop wireless charging from working
g) it's another one of those Apple workarounds for issues they've introduced, some call it malicious behaviour they call it innovation.

Would you say the "It just works" mantra is perhaps not entirely, 100% accurate? hehe

Well a week in on my XS Max and it’s a lot better than the 7 plus I used.

No issues with size or lack of home button and the face recognition is total wizardry- it has no problems at night in total darkness....very clever!

The camera is not inky better and the phone is a noticeable leap from the 7 (not that the 7 is bad!)

Anyone after a mint black 7 Plus, drop me a line and any sensible offers will be considered.
I buy a specific iPhone for many reasons, but the main reason is based on the camera output, so having had my 7+ since launch (because of the then awesome dual lens physical upgrade which allowed software to be used) IMO the 8 and X have not spurred me on to upgrade as they have been pretty much the same as the 7+. I had pinned my hopes on the XS, however on paper it once again doesn't look like a worthy upgrade?!?

My 7+ is starting to get a bit leggy, and I'd ideally like to upgrade, but I don't want to throw £1000+ at a phone that offers no significant advantage to my 7+. If I do upgrade I'm a bit torn as to wether I need the Max, rather than the normal XS, given all I will lose is a few mm from the screen width.

So for those of you who've gone from a 7+ to a XS, is there any noticeable difference in picture quality?

Yes it is. You just need to buy a suitable cover.

I went 8+ to XS Max. The new camera is much better in low light or high contrast (shooting straight into the sun for example). I am really happy with it

I meant as standard. QI cases have been around since the 5S, possibly earlier but it adds a fair bit of bulk.

Im cautious to leave it all night. Apparently it can kill the battery a bit quicker than wired? Something about when charging wirelessly, the battery is still being used to run the phone whilst its being charged, where when using a cable, the phone is being run by the cable while the battery is left alone to charge?
Could be bullst mind its just something I read.

The phone is still powered by the battery whilst charging, either by a cable or wirelessly. The charge controller also switches off or to trickle regardless of how the phone is being charged. Otherwise there would be far more phones bursting into flames.

anyone with an XS have any comments on the camera? I upgraded from a 7 and i'm shocked just how processed the photos are. Initially there's a wow factor when you take a portrait and view on teh phone but the second you view on a TV or print the noise and level of processing looks incredibly unnatural. I was expecting the dual lens system to produce much more realistic pictures but they look like someone with no skill has let rip with photoshop.

How can I turn all this processing off, I don't see options on settings?

Luke.

You can't. Lots of people are moaning about it.

The latest beta solves the problem so hopefully it won’t be too long for those affected.

I have just ordered an XS for $700 and an XS Max for $799. Both are 256Gb. I did have to commit to 24 months but the terms are the same as if I had just signed up with AT&T with no phones.

I was surprised at how good a discount I got. This means I will probably be able to sell them in 12-24 months and still break even.
