The latest beta solves the problem so hopefully it won’t be too long for those affected.

I love iPhones but I hate Apple being purposely difficult. Instead of updating drivers they insist on new iTunes. Fine, I will download it as I have no choice. Apple the delete the older phone drivers and don’t put them back on. When you plug the iPhone 6 in which worked moments ago it just says it’s waiting on Microsoft to update drivers.
This is just an example of Apple being difficult. They once took away the ability to dictate the location of the backup. This meant it was forced onto the OS drive. But, it was hidden so you didn’t know what filled your OS drive and couldn’t find it once you knew.
I know this can only be as a result of a meeting about how to fk pc users. Here’s the issue. iTunes is apples chance to lure me away and instead they make it so I would never consider them.

Ah gotcha. Yeah that is a pain because itunes is just intolerable.
I really dont get the hate for itunes, I've used it since my first ipod mini...... always just set all my devices to 'manually control' music. Then its just a case of drag/ drop what music I want on/ off the iphone/ ipod/ ipad, same with photos etc..... all backed up to the computer. I buy a CD, rip to itunes, plug in phone, drag new album over to phone, job done. if theres any music i want off the phone, plug into itunes, select the phone, select the music- click delete, job done. malks222 said:

I'm not sure iTunes is so great if the solution to using it is "manually control your music instead of letting it do it"...
It is the only sane way to use it though, because allowing iTunes to sync your music means you end up with some inscrutable system whereby it will only work with you if it gets to wipe the music off your iPhone, or your computer, or both, depending on what it feels like.
Someone will no doubt pipe up and say that this is perfectly reasonable, but it is inscrutable to your average user. It is perfectly reasonable that your phone and your Mac/PC will have different phone libraries. You wouldn't want (or need) ringtones on your computer any more than you would necessarily want ALL of your music on your phone, as it may well not even fit.
On top fo that iTunes doesn't even know what it wants to be. It has been repurposed more than once, gathering lots of cruft over the years. It was always bloatware but if you compare the installer size to - say - Spotify, it's ridiculous. It is an imprecise jack of all trades, master of none piece of software that should've been rewritten from the ground up years ago.

The answer for me has been just to sync all of the music I want to the iPhone in the very beginning, and since then just manage it on the phone, and have auto iPhone backups to iCloud. Given music is so hard to obtain (you know...) these days I just use Apple Music now too. Goodbye iTunes...It is the only sane way to use it though, because allowing iTunes to sync your music means you end up with some inscrutable system whereby it will only work with you if it gets to wipe the music off your iPhone, or your computer, or both, depending on what it feels like.

Tried the phones in an apple store yesterday and was impressed with them. Brilliant screen loved how it stretched to the corners. Think the Max is a step too far in terms of weight and handling for me but battery life concerns me on the smaller sizes, this has to improve in the coming years because charging twice in one day just isn’t on

Couldn’t wait to try the Xr so I have ordered an Xs from Apple for tomorrow delivery.
And this folks is why Apple delaying the XR was such a shrewd move.Apple are smart as fk, they knew they can't ramp up prices of their old style of phones so they introduced X last year with the "revolutionary" fullbody screen and the notch and could come up with whatever price tag they wanted to (because revolution) and now since 100% of their brand new line up is X like they were able to pull wool over sheep eyes and claim that these phones aren't expensive, they cost as much as last year's X, even the "budget" Xr.

I tried them too. Currently got a 6S+ which I wouldn't change for a non-plus, but I do tend to hold it near the bottom with my little finger underneath, and as such struggle to reach the top left corner with my thumb, but naturally now just shift my grip. The double tap on the home button never comes to mind.I thought the Max would be huge, and I wouldn't want a bigger phone than the 6S+ - but the Max is comprable in size to the 6S+, but has much more screen real estate. No brainer - expect I think i'd struggle to reach the top right corner even more so... but then if I adjust my grip instinctively when I need to reach the top left corner now, I guess I'll continue to do so. Or perhaps learn to hold it in the middle.
Still leaning towards a second hand X though...
I've had the following on my iPhone X purchased at launch last year. My phones had a few drops including my neighbours double exhaust dropping on the phone as I was using the torch function last year.
iPhone Xs Case, iPhone X Case [Liquid Air] Variation by Spigen Link: http://amzn.eu/d/20ldcbr
The only other thing I would mention is military drop protection is only 3 or 4 feet. My wife uses a Rhinoshield case which comes with 11ft of drop protection. They do tend to be much more slippy but they have a small hook so you can attach a strap to the case. I can see that being handy in London as well to stop opportunistic scrotes stealing your device.
