Just travelled and whilst off line on a plane the Iohone XS really struggled. I downloaded some films on Amazon prime and the film wouldn’t play but I could hear the audio.

Games were crashing
Amazon music was crashing ( off line mode)
Really pissed off, is the phone due an update or is it down to stty apps that don’t work properly ?

Thanks

Has anyone gone from an x to a Xs max?

I’m looking at upgrading and offsetting the cost with selling my old handset

Worth it?

I did this.

All told after selling my X it cost me about £700 to upgrade (sold X for £750, XS Max with AppleCare+ was £1448... God that's both painful and ludicrous now that I think about it)

The extra screen size is nice, I missed my 6S+ size. Unfortunately not much actually leverages that extra screen, almost everything is just scaled up. There is no extra row of icons on the home screens.

It doesn't feel particularly different performance wise than the X did, which was already fast. The screen tech isn't the revelation (OLED) that it would be coming from an earlier phone. I don't really take many photos and am not a social media monkey so I don't know how much better the camera is, though it's rumoured to be much better in low light. FaceID is supposedly quicker but not so much that you will notice it.

All in all I wouldn't call it an upgrade from the X. I mean it obviously is, but it isn't - if you know what I mean. If someone turned around now and said "here's £700 if you go back to your X" (I didn't actually realise until now how much it had cost to change) I think I'd give it pause for thought.

Give it a try first in an Apple store would be my advice.

Sounds like an app issue vs a phone issue. What games were crashing?

Have you always purchased AppleCare? If so have you claimed? It’s peace of mind but as you say 1,500 notes is rich smile

What made you want to change in the first place?

I have, yeah. Peace of mind more than anything, and no I haven't had to claim. Arguably purchasing the Tech Pack on my Barclays account could've done the same thing for a lot less money, but alas too late now.

A little bit of retail therapy, and a little bit of wanting a phone the size of my 6S+ again (I missed the screen real estate). Had I known that pretty much everything on it bar video would just be scaled up I probably would've reconsidered.

I can't explain it completely rationally to be honest, hence why saying that anyone considering doing the same thing (upgrading from X) ought to try it in the Apple store first. I didn't, I got sucked up into the hype I'm afraid.

Looking at Tech Pack T&C's it doesn't cover "Cosmetic damage", so presumably if you smash the glass it won't be covered. With AppleCare the smashed glass is covered.

Fair enough, just seems alien to me that someone would spend £700 on... nothing. At least you're honest about it, though. I do wonder how many people talk themselves into the latest iPhone/Galaxy/whateverpieceoftech and end up feeling like they've made a mistake but can't be honest about it.

I didn't upgrade this time but did get a new Watch. I went for the cellular option with Vodafone and have to say it's brilliant. Being able to go running without my phone and still listen to podcasts (using the new podcast watch app) without having downloaded them first is fantastic.

Also being able to take phone calls (using the AirPods) whilst running without the phone did work amazingly well.

Battery life is definitely impacted, but I'm still able to do a 10 mile run without my phone and have enough power to last a full day.

From the tech pack document stating that a cracked screen would be covered (albeit with a £75 excess):

We only cover damage if it stops the normal functioning of your device. If it is just a scratch or dent, and your device still works as expected, then we will not repair or replace it.
We know scratches and scrapes to your device aren't nice but we are here to fix your device when it isn't working, or has damage to the screen that could lead to injury or further damage to the phone. For example, a scratched screen on a tablet or a mobile phone would not be covered but a cracked screen would.

£75 is not a bad excess when the screen replacement from Apple for an XS is £265

I paid £15 for them to fit one in store - they did a perfect job (using a jig helps biggrin )

I bought this one recently

https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B074GWQMRS/ref...

It's the only one I've ever bought that fitted without a single bubble. Very impressed with it.
