This made me laugh. I didn’t realise how many people had copied the ‘ugly’ notch. Presumably some don’t even have the technology in the notch which was the reason for apple even doing it.

I mean... They all have a speaker and one or more front facing cameras. The iPhone has some neat IR stuff going on too, but the base equipment in each notch is the same is it not?

I can't stand the trend, it looks st. I really hope they can cram as much as possible of this stuff under the screen or hidden away as soon as possible.

I do wonder what we will do when all the phones have full screen real estate, they’ll all look identical!

Latest, 2020 iphone will go foldable. So a radical departure in Firm factor.

I assume it’ll be quite good, but I honestly can’t fathom the point of a folding one?

I can.

I like to keep my phone secure in a buttoned down shirt or jacket pocket. The phones have been getting too big for the pockets.

Always had flip phones back in the day. Nokia and Motorola.

The market is wanting even larger screens and by folding the screen this can be achieved. You can’t walk around with an iPad mini sized phone. The market also wants a smaller phone. Caters for both I suppose.

But I bet it’ll end up the same size as the current ones whilst folded. They’ll want the unfolded ones to be like iPad mini size or something.

My XS is the absolute size limit for me. In a case it’s even a bit annoyingly big sometimes now.

Let's not forget that Apple "copied" LG V10 and their additional screen real estate idea.

This was such an amazing idea but it turned into the notch abomination. The only hope is that it will go away eventually like the curved screens that were all the rage 4-5 years ago did.
Don't forget the Essential phone which first had a notch rather than a 2nd screen like the LG. There is an obsession about the bezel-less phone that I can't understand. The notch is ugly and IMO my Note 8 which has a small bezel at the top and bottom is the best way to go until in-screen fingerprint, camera and IR sensors are perfected.

No more cases and screen protectors would be a bonus.

Ello all,

Sorry this isn’t directly related to the launch but I do a question...

I have recently ended up with an IPad Pro 12.9, the Smart Keyboard and a pencil. This is all hunky-dory but I’m looking for a case / skin to protect the corners and back - I’m struggling to find one as it would need to be compatible with the keyboard.

Anyone dealt with this before?

Thanks

Agreed yes

Phone sizes have long gotten stupid, imo.

Galaxy S8/9 or iPhone X is THE absolute limit for me, from a size perspective.

Rather like cars which are also getting too big imo. That’s for another thread.

I have an iPhone X and wouldn’t want anything bigger. The 4 was a great size for me.

I would say these are even better:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07H2XJKSQ/ref...

They curve around the edges and have a black border and are virtually unnoticeable, especially with a case fitted.

I have one fitted with a silicone case and you can't see it all all.
I've just fitted this Klearlook one to my XS Max (after my previous, more expensive screen protector came out of my trouser pocket all shattered somehow!). Pretty impressed so far, because of the black edges you can't see it *at all* on the phone, it just looks like part of it. Whereas the previous one I had, which did not have a black edge, stood out a mile.

Only thing with the Klearlook one is that the so called template/frame/tool it comes with to aid fitting, is a complete waste of time; it clips to the phone OK but then the aperture is too small to get the protector through (too small by lots) so you can't use it.
I can confirm the Klearlook tempered screen protector is brilliant, very easy and cannot tell its there at all.. Very impressive.

Unfortunately do not do one for my Samsung S9 Plus else I'd 100% get one.

I tried them too. Currently got a 6S+ which I wouldn't change for a non-plus, but I do tend to hold it near the bottom with my little finger underneath, and as such struggle to reach the top left corner with my thumb, but naturally now just shift my grip. The double tap on the home button never comes to mind.

I thought the Max would be huge, and I wouldn't want a bigger phone than the 6S+ - but the Max is comprable in size to the 6S+, but has much more screen real estate. No brainer - expect I think i'd struggle to reach the top right corner even more so... but then if I adjust my grip instinctively when I need to reach the top left corner now, I guess I'll continue to do so. Or perhaps learn to hold it in the middle.

Still leaning towards a second hand X though...
Ended up buying a second hand X, and Mous case. Phone hasn't arrived yet, but I think it will be ideal for me.

I liked the screen real estate of the 6S Plus but felt it was a little bulky in the pocket at times, especially with the Spigen Thin Fit Hybrid case.

Hopefully the X will be a win-win in that sense with more screen real estate in a smaller form factor.

Some of my suits date back to the days of tiny Nokias, when I had the left inside breast pocket made extra narrow so that phones like the 8910i wouldn't fall over and sit horizontally. The perils of short term thinking! The suits from the 90s are fine, because they had to cope with phones like the 2110 and 8110.

I got an Xs this week having used a 7+ for the last couple of years. I went for the 7+ because of the larger screen size but with the X models having a screen size that's on par, seems like an ideal balance.

So far I'm very pleased I opted for it. Also this is the first iPhone since my first (4) that feels like a step up from the previous models in a big way. The 4 to the 5 was as underwhelming as the 6 to 7 but this actually feels like it brings something more, not just a bigger screen or a bit faster.

I'm hoping the X will feel like a step up from the 6S Plus. I felt the 7 Plus and 8 Plus weren't a worthwhile upgrade.

Those with a Mous Limitless 2.0 case, will a standard magnetic vent mount work with the Mous? I assume they'll repel? The Mous vent mount is damn pricey...

If they don't work together maybe I can join the two with a ferrous metal plate on my Spigen magnetic vent mount. I've grown to love the magnetic vent mount, definitely don't want to go back to a sprung one.

I’m amazed Apple have never offered a mini or “Nano” iPhone.

The main reason I bought my iPhone 7 a year ago was that it was one of the smallest decent phones available. Them all getting bigger is a tad annoying.
