Its amazing how quickly you adjust to the lack of home button
Indeed. So much so in fact that when someone gives me a pre-X iPhone now it takes a few seconds to acclimatise to what the home button actually does.

Xiaomi are getting around the front camera bezel/notch thing with the Mi Mix 3. The screen slides down to show the camera and sensors behind it in the phone body. https://www.techadvisor.co.uk/new-product/mobile-p...

As I find when I use Mrs BC’s 6 rather than my X. It’s very odd going back.

I got an Xs this week having used a 7+ for the last couple of years. I went for the 7+ because of the larger screen size but with the X models having a screen size that's on par, seems like an ideal balance.

So far I'm very pleased I opted for it. Also this is the first iPhone since my first (4) that feels like a step up from the previous models in a big way. The 4 to the 5 was as underwhelming as the 6 to 7 but this actually feels like it brings something more, not just a bigger screen or a bit faster.
So far so good with the X for me. Loving FaceiD and the extra screen real estate and smaller form factor than my 6s Plus. Feels like a big upgrade.

I do keep swiping up to get to the control center though, and end up at the home screen, and the gesture to get to the app switcher has been a bit hit and miss, but i'm sure i'll adjust.
It’s interesting how Apple have spun this so people think they are getting more real estate, when they aren’t.

I’ve gone from a 7+ to a XS and I must admit I’m missing the extra screen width of my old 7+. Sure, corner to corner is bigger but actual useable real estate is less on the XS. I look at it as a trade off for the smaller form factor, but it is slightly annoying that the lower spec XR gets the width I think the XS should have got. Typical Apple product hierarchy which sways people to pay more to get what they ‘want’.

I don’t regret getting the XS, because the XS Max is just too heavy for me, but for the first time ever Apple don’t have an iPhone that suits all my needs and wants.

Oppo have the same with the FindX thats been out a good few months now - I looked at one in Thailand a couple of weeks ago and it was impressive but the pricetag of c.£700 put me off. I dont mind paying flagship money if there is a chance to recoup an element in 12-18mths when I move it on (ala iPhone / Samsung), but with the Oppo there was literally nil chance of this IMHO

Went to have a look at the XR today on my lunch. It's a thing of beauty and I see no benefit to me of going for the X or X Max so will be purchasing next week!

I was looking at the XR too as I would really have liked a dual-sim but the killer is that none of the three networks I use (in UK, France and Australasia) have an eSIM option so here's no point in changing if I can't use the facilities. I know that there's a physical dual-SIM version in Hong Kong but Apple HKG won't ship abroad and I've no idea when I'll be going to Hong Kong again (maybe end 2019/start of 2020).

That is true, just bad wording on my behalf. The screen is a higher resolution though too isn't it?

The keyboard felt a bit compressed now but i've got use to it now.

XR is tempting indeed and there are reports the battery lift is the best of the lot as its not powering that oled display.

Girlfriend received her XR on Friday, great phone! Perfect for her, the camera takes great photos and screen is plenty big enough to look at instagram so she's very happy

I thought one of the benefits of OLED was it had lower power consumption due to not having to power black pixels like LCD does?

Greater backlight on OLED, therefore uses MORE power than LCD screen

Just curious, if someone printed an A4 picture of your face out, would the phone recognise it as you and unlock?

It'd have to be a 3d mask.

What I find more intriguing, if you are asleep can someone unlock your phone by putting it against your face?

IIRC you have to have your eyes open.

No.
There was a Samsung on which that worked.

My kids have tried getting my iPhone X to unlock when I've been asleep. It doesn't work.

Both eyes have to be fully open with me. Normally cant unlock my phone when I have just woke up and one eye half closed etc hehe

anyone else think these new names are a bit off? X 'S' and 'R' being taken from the nomenclature of the car world.

iPad 'RS' ?
