it's worse once you consider the safe areas on the X/XS screen: normal apps (not games/full screen video apps) should allow for the home indicator at the bottom, status bar and navigation bar at the top and margins left and right. So that's 16 points left and right off the horizontal and at least 78 points off the vertical for the status bar and home indicator. The actual usable number of points on an iPhone X/XS is the same vertical as an 8+ and less horizontal. The XS Max/XR is larger even allowing for safe area
True actually... I am still quite happy with the screen real estate and handset size, I often felt the 6s+ was too big once in a case. The X is a nice compromise for me.Bullitt Five-Oh said:
I wasn't being facetious by the way. Just a new one to me!Thinking of buying a new IPad Pro. I’m a bit confused by the ‘18W USB‑C Power Adapter’. Is that a different charging system than on the previous IPad? I don’t want to have to carry yet another charger. We travel a lot and chargers for phones, IPad, MacBook, iwatches, headphones and kindles are becoming a bit of an issue.

Although it is a different charger USB-C is being adopted by most companies whilst it will be annoying for the short term it’s good to see apple using it vs their own proprietary cable. bad company said:
Yes but yet another charger to carry when I travel.
It is but has “foldable pins” so its the same overall size as the small iphone charger and a good deal smaller than the old Pro charger. You can buy USBC to lightning cables so for me the portable options are simple - take the new ipad pro charger plus 2 cables. You can still charge the new ipad from USBA, you just need a meaty one and the right cable.

I’m flying to Canada the following week so probably best to buy it at the airport.

I have one attached to the zip of my MacBook Pro sleeve, or looped between the charging block and slide in plug so it's always on me. I use it to charge my iPhone X too.

Or just carry a handy USB C to USB A adaptor. Then you can connect USB A items to your iPad, and also connect USB to Lightning cables to the new power adaptor?

That’s a possibility. The adaptors are £5.99 on Amazon.I have one attached to the zip of my MacBook Pro sleeve, or looped between the charging block and slide in plug so it's always on me. I use it to charge my iPhone X too.
Slight thread bump but saves a new thread.
Bought an XR in Black Friday sales., yet to come.
Firstly, I'm wanting a wireless charger. Budget £35ish - any recommendations?
Also, I have a magnet on the back of my 6S which attaches to a magnet which is small and black and unnoticeable in the vents of the car. I imagine if I stuck a metal disk on he back of the XR it would affect wireless charging? And I find those 'cradles' awful - any suggestions here also!
TIA

The blue LEDs turn off once it starts charging.
As for in the car: yes magnets or metal plates in the case or stuck on the back do indeed stop the wireless charging, I tried one that had a magnetic metal square so it went around the wireless charging zone, which wasn't strong enough to stick. Tried making my own with stronger magnets (0.8mm rare earth magnetic discs) which worked for a few days but didn't last. The trouble is the XS Max is a very heavy phone to support near-vertically in the car especially when the car goes over bumps. You may have more success with the XR which I assume is lighter. I gave up with wireless charging in the car and settled on a squeezy-sides cradle and a cable in the bottom to charge it.

How much did you save?Current contract is 6S (3+ years so sim only basically) for £15pm 20GB data. New contract is XR 100GB £36pm nothing down. So £20 more a month for 4 generations better phone and 5x more internet.
The only downside to the new contract is its on Vodafone, and I never seem to hear very good things about them.

Thanks, the Anker ones do seem to keep popping up so will probably end up with one of those.https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01KJL4XNY

Yeah I thought I'd have to go for the cradle, no problem but thanks for the input!

I went for a similar deal, free XR and (once cashback is taken into account) £27.50 per month for the contract. If you then account for the free Spotify as its a Vodafone Entertainment plan then it works out at £17.50/month! Seems I was one of the lucky ones however, so I'll have to wait and see if the company still exists to claim the cashback from over the next 2 years - https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-46388467Current contract is 6S (3+ years so sim only basically) for £15pm 20GB data.
