I had a 2010 MacBook Pro and I love the new bigger force touch track pad on my 2018 MBA. Horses for courses I guess.

Yep, I've said this before but a big part of why I'm still in the MacBook camp is the touchpad and the smoothness of the gestures.

Also, large touchpads make it nicer to use said gestures - imo.

The functionality on it's own is great - I love the standalone magic trackpad - but obviously since the built in trackpad is part of a bigger ecosystem and it interferes with keyboard typing the overall functionality suffers. It's like putting an LS3 engine into a Golf GTI without paying attention to suspension and brakes and boasting how magical and revolutionary we are since the car still drives.

The pre 2016 force touch trackpads on retina MBP's were perfect, enough space to work with and that nice click.

The trackpad is occasionally a little irritating too, I'm having palm rejection issues, it's sometimes registering the heel of my hand as a second touch when I don't want it to.
The trackpad size on these new post 2016 MacBooks shows that those in charge of Apple are clueless as to what they really want from each device. There's literally no need for a trackpad this big, and it makes life difficult because of what you've described. The only reason they made them so big is to compensate for lack of touchscreen, which to anyone who understands how touchpads work makes no sense since they are relative not absolute positioning devices and they don't care where you put your finger (i.e. trackpads only track movement hence why they are called trackpads FFS). Jobs would have fired the idiot who suggested this idea.
I can't comment on the trackpad size. But very glad Apple haven't gone touchscreen. It's such a flawed concept on a laptop/desktop OS.

I don't have an issue with it interfering with using the keyboard either. Maybe I'm lucky in having the same sized hands as Sir Jonny or something.

It's most likely a quirk of the way I hold my hands, and I'm sure over the next few months I'll get used to it. I like the trackpad the rest of the time, having a large area is often nice and as I think I said, the quality of the haptic click and general finger tracking is just immense. Apple really is ahead of the game here, although maybe not by quite as much as it used to be.

I don't agree. Different devices have different shapes, it's not so unusual that a different laptop might need me to place my hands in a slightly different place.

If I needed to hold my hands or type in a very different or even unnatural way, as per the well known iPhone problem, then I'd agree. But I don't think that's required in this instance, I just need to shift my hands slightly.

Oh yes of course, this is also known as the "you need to work around our magic" design language. No joint pain no revolution baby!

Oh I'm sorry, I didn't realise this thread is reserved for those who never question the overlords in Cupertino, regardless how ridiculous their moves are. Since you keep tabs on my posts (which is creepy AF), did I not mention I own quite a lot of Apple's hardware?

You’ve done a really great job of rubbing people up the wrong way in this thread.  You seem incapable of offering criticism without resorting to insulting people.  So no, the thread isn’t reserved for Apple sychophants, rather, everyone else seems pretty good at discussing flaws without the additional ste you sprinkle over your posts.

You’ve been called on it a few times, so it’s not just me.

As for keeping tabs on your posts, err, really?  No.

It’s simply a case of remembering who wrote what – not a particularly difficult thing to do when participating in forum discussions.

You haven't said a good word about Apple products from day 1. What kind of person bh's and moans about a product but keeps buying it? Insanity is defined as 'doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results'.

I actually had to look through this thread to remind myself what you're banging on about. Seems to me that you're a very sensitive stalker with no life. I literally said nothing in this thread that would have/should have insulted anyone, unless you're offended by facts. Facts that you might not understand and hence disagree with but that still doesn't change the fact that they are indeed facts.

Please feel free to ignore my posts from now on. Any future attempt at patronising from your end will be regarded as proving what I wrote above right.

Agreed, there are different kinds of professionals, e.g. if you're a hookah you might find these iPad's great for your use (like to store and view the pictures of your clients that you took without their knowledge and that you might use later on to blackmail them with).

So because people don't share your opinion - and it IS just that - an opinion - you resort to calling them devoted sheep & lacking in sense of quality.

Then on this page, when Alex was taking about his hand positioning, you basically put words in his mouth and suggested he wasn't doing it the Apple way.

Then against the background of the above -

Ignoring the fact that your first sentence is quite insulting to your intended victim. I think all the name calling and direct personal insults you've leveled at people would likely count as "insulting".

I did if you were originally posting due to half term. But as you are posting now it can't be. Are you really this rude in real life?

To be clear, I'm not actually insulted, I just can't stand folk who are incapable of making a point without being snide about it.

Excuse me good man, if you don't mind, would you mind extrapolating the juxtaposition that I'm deriving from your above statement. Are you seriously implying that below sentence is in your good man's opinion insulting, pretty please?
