Do you mean Tue 30 October at 3pm, as in tomorrow?
I'm hoping that a new 12.9" iPad Pro will be unveiled because I've been hanging back from buying one for several months now.
A new MacBook Air would be good, but I'm guessing that Apple in their infinite wisdom will do away with all the useful ports in the 'upgrade' process, and no doubt get rid of the very handy SD slot whilst they are at it.
Wow, I said November didn't I? Idiot Alex. I'm hoping that a new 12.9" iPad Pro will be unveiled because I've been hanging back from buying one for several months now.

I agree about the new laptops, but what can we do? At the end of the day, an awful lot of Windows based machines never manage to quite tie everything into one package like Apple Macs do, which irritates the hell out of me.
I'm using a Dell XPS 13 right now and I like everything about it except the screen aspect ratio. I'll be watching the release closely for the new laptop, and maybe even for the new Mac Mini if we are really, really lucky.

I'm rather hoping that they don't go down the route of ramping up the prices when they unveil the new kit.
I just wish they would concentrate on fitting more memory and faster processors in their devices instead of meddling with everything else just for the sake of it. Perhaps fit an SD card slot in the iPad
To anyone reading this post, the Apple updates will be announced tomorrow Tuesday 30th October at 3pm UK time.

I will be in the market for a new Macbook / Macbook air depending on what they do.
I dont see the issue with the moaning about the ports. Everything is wireless these days and cloud based so the only thing ive ever plugged into my laptop for a few years now is the phone to charge it. Can still do that when the computer itself isnt charging, no big deal. They have to do these things to force change. I imagine in say 2 years time there will be no ports at all on any of the laptops or phones.
I think you are being a little naive that others might have additional uses. I dont see the issue with the moaning about the ports. Such as maybe plugging in 2 extra monitors as well as a USB device or two and maybe a wired network connection. Because sometimes WiFi sucks.

They are going to build these things for the majority of users and their research probably tells them that those users email, browse the internet, stream music and videos and store photos and that’s about it. The sad fact is that usage beyond that kind of level these days is probably not considered normal. It really wouldn’t surprise me if we even see office software dying out for the home user in the next few years either.

If you are going to be plugging in 2 monitors etc into a laptop that is not “normal” laptop useage and would be something a tiny number of users would do. Surely you would only do that at a desk and a modern docking station would allow you to do that?

I don't think it is that uncommon. I work for a very large firm (puts 60,000 people to work each day, 20,000 of them direct employees). The company doesn't issue desktops, anyone with a computer has a laptop. So many people do indeed then plug in to additional monitors and equipment. Not too mention if you need to use TV's/projectors/conference phones etc, they don't all work off a single connection. Either company meeting rooms or external venues. You do still need easy ability to plug in HDMI rather than needing a dongle for everything.
I admit, this company is not Macs. But I used Macs at my previous company. Laptops again, no desktops.

Actually, I screwed up on both counts! It was 3pm when we were GMT+1.To get it right this time, and in case anyone is interested in watching the Keynote, it will be today at 14:00.
Oooh about to start then!
I'm most interested in new iMacs, or possibly a Mac Mini. I would like to see the touch bar from the MBP being integrated to the keyboard.
With regards to USB-C, I thought it would be an issue when I got my MacBook, it really isn't. I have a Dell laptop/docking station at work, which also has a USB-C port and that is the only port I ever use. I plug in to a docking station for monitor, keyboard, mouse, network etc. Much easier than faffing about with multiple connectors...

OK - so why would you buy a MacBook, now the new iPad Pro looks so capable?
its sooo close isn't it....but I still like using a laptop because all the controls are in the same area i.e the lower case, whereas using an iPad you have to raise your hand to the screen between typing.Gassing Station | Computers, Gadgets & Stuff | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
