ordered the ipad pro (large!) with 256gb and pencil as soon as the keynote finshed and shop was back online...

will replace wacom tablet / paper notebook / etc. photoshop & lightroom are useful for photos, but generally used on the macbook pro, it is the direct on screen writing and drawing I want...

shame there is no update to the ipad mini (which I am using now)...

Too late for me. Crossed back to the dark side a bit ago now and nothing here tempts really...

MBA - inherits the god awful keyboard and lack of ports from its relatives. Other than that it looks a pretty good machine and spec for spec usefully cheaper than an X1 Carbon. But the first two points are the killer.

Mini - how much! I susoect the thing I'll get to replace my aging Minis when the time comes will be a NUC or similar.

Someone noted Win10 above. IMO it's not that bad now in Pro guise. Conversely there are increasing amounts of things that irritate with OSX. The gap is barely there now.
what's so bad about the MBA keyboard? I've never used one so don't know.

I think if they'd gone USB-C on the new iPhones then I'd be looking more seriously at the new iPad along with a new iPhone.

My Macbook Pro has 4x USB-C ports and nothing else and having one charger for all would be a bonus.

As it is, I think I'll be changing my EE contract to SIM only and keeping the iPhone X and not bothering with a new iPad, having given it more thought.
I’m quite happy with the move to USB-C overall, but it is a bit annoying that they announced a new range of iPhones with Lightning a month ago, and have now changed the iPad to USB-C.

I realise they have to make the change at some point, but might have made more sense to have all of the late-2018 range working on the same standard...

It is one power brick and 2 leads.

I've been using the butterfly keyboard on my MacBook for 3 years now and I don't see what the problem is. Of the four different keyboards I use regularly it is probably my favourite.

Power block has the USB-C to USB-C coming out of it, would just like to have the flexibility of either sticking my phone on it or using it from laptop to phone/iPad, I know I'm being picky.

In terms of the keyboard, if they've moved to the same keyboard as the latest Macbook Pro then I've had issues with the keyboard getting jammed and certain keys not working properly. It's due a trip to the Genius Bar at some point. My favourite keyboard is the wireless one that comes with the iMac.

I have a 7 year old MBA that still ticks along but I was considering replacing it but I see the latest one has no usb-a or more importantly SD card slot. Mine has been reasonably reliable other than replacing the power brick/cable and a costly £300 motherboard repair and the keys are sticking (spill) so maybe not that reliable after all. I would need to spend a further £58 on adapters on top of the already hiked purchase price. The new screen looks great when I've viewed it in the MBP models but for me, they've taken away too much from the Air and are charging too much.

This is a bit misleading. The "latest" pro runs the third generation butterfly keyboard. The recall program refers to the previous generation.

As I understand.

For a company that is sooo revolutionary and thinking out of the box, this will never cease to amaze me.

Those empty spaces between icons and then almost half of the screen is empty too... How on earth did this get sing off. There's so much real estate on that screen yet they decided that blowing up the iPad mini layout is going to look ok somehow. It's almost like they had no clue what Pro's want - unless Pro means Pro youtuber, Pro instagram model, etc.

It looks much less stupid on the 11 inch, but still not what I would call well thought through.

Seriously, anyone thinking about this just get a freaking Surface Pro 6.

Your pictures are broken (edit working now for some reason), however, criticising Apple on UI choices and consistency is a bit of a laugh when you then suggest a Windows 10 device rofl

I use a Surface Pro for work. It's a good, very small laptop and I like to use the pen to mark up documents. It's nowhere near as good to use as a tablet as an iPad though. It is also not as good for showing things to clients in meetings, because it is slower to turn on and more cumbersome in document handling. Differently sized windows and window resizing are just not good in the tablet context.

So you'd not get one on the sole basis that you think the gap between the icons is too big..... rofl

The questionable interface is just an icing on the poo cake (very nice looking poo cake thanks to a wrap with a lot of "magical" bling). I'd not get one because despite running the ststorm that is Windows 10 Surface Pro 6 is a better thought through device that is actually designed with Pro-fessionals and Pro-ductivity in mind.

You mean suggesting a device running a fully blown system over a device running a phone system (hence the freaking naff looking desktop) is a rofl situation. Here take this L boay.

Depends entirely what your intended use it. "Professional" is not a job title or a career path.

Agreed, there are different kinds of professionals, e.g. if you're a hookah you might find these iPad's great for your use (like to store and view the pictures of your clients that you took without their knowledge and that you might use later on to blackmail them with).

I was more commenting on the criticism of the UI when Windows is pretty much one of the worst going for UX and consistency.

Don't get me wrong, I dislike Windows 10 as much as the next guy and I agree that the inconsistency is shocking (in majority cases it's caused by legacy crap that they can't or don't want to fix) but the vanilla iOS on such a big device that is aimed at productivity minded market is mind boggling. I have had two iPads and I can't find any serious use for them. It's a great toy for kids though! Surface Pro on the other hand does the tablet and the laptop thing as well and offers connectivity you'd expect from a device that Pro's would use (minus USB-C).
