Good luck getting that in your jeans pocket. Oh and do let us know how it ends for you when you sit down laugh .

I'm not convinced that thing they unveiled actually works in any capacity? I'm sure it's just a transparent image with a backlight behind it (think kids toy 'smartphone'). Did they actually show them doing anything on the screens, swiping, tapping, opening an app, etc?

Haha. Yeah, I hope it's better than the hinge on my old Psion 3MX.

It looks like the same type of hinge that MS use in their Surface Book convertible. It seems pretty robust.

I like the look of them. I use an iPad mini for flying, so if my phone could fold out and do that job too I’d be pretty happy!
You'd be better off with wings 😉

Im on about the screen. After a while i can see it stretching and not sitting flat when you open it to full screen.

Review units of the Galaxy Fold are out, the screens are breaking. Reviewers say it's a hardware issue that needs fixing, Samsung say you shouldn't remove the protection film from the screen and nothing is changing for the production phones, some reviewers didn't remove the film and it still broke.

I still think its a willfully bad idea. These will be like the exploding Note in terms of reputational damage for Samsung.

Every one that breaks will get media / social media attention. Its going to be like watching a train crash in slow motion.

Que Daily Mail stories of "I maxed out my credit card to buy a new Samsung phone and it broke in 24 hours and Samsung dont want to know" along with the obligatory picture of some fat bint with a sad face holding her broken phone.

Crikey.

1) I'm consistent (see today's thread)
2) I wonder how many of my posts are repeated?

Seems massively flawed and can you imagine 6m down the line how it would have stood up to the daily abuse that a phone tends to get.

Ah The Verge, aka the virtue signalling Apple shills. If this was an iPhone iFoldX they would have been jizzing all over this thing claiming how revolutionary it is and obviously since this is a first gen concept like product we should allow for small quirks, score 9.75 out of 10.

PS did they mention how they caused that screen to break, because it was their fault (their described it in the article, and I didn't bother watching the video).

The Verge's one didn't break from their own doing. Debris found its way under the screen.

Others have killed theirs by peeling off the top plastic layer, that looks and feels an awful lot like a screen protector.

Whatever though these things are going to be in trouser or jacket pockets, all sort of tiny debris collects in pockets which could easily find its way into the hinge or under the screen.

If this was an Apple product they would have shilled it as "yes the screen can easily be damaged, it's a minor niggle and price to pay for being one of the pioneers and nothing that cannot be prevented by Apple's own case, yours only for $399.95. Reasonable price to pay vs the price of the phone itself, Apple did it again, they created the future."

You think it's ok that debris can get through the hinge and break the phone?

Normal usage.

I have no love for The Verge either. Watching their review video was painful. Doesn't mean they're bullstting though. Whether it's on day one, day 30 or day six months, at some point a bit of lint from your pocket is going to get through the hinge and kill your phone.
