I had an Electron, bought it to play Elite, couldn't afford a BBC Micro.
I remember standing outside the shop in Henrietta Street watching the demo thinking it was the most science fiction thing I'd ever seen.
I spent hours learning to program that thing.
The electron had a great little hack for copying games and software - where you could get it to load the software into memory and then dump that back onto tape (I didn't have a disk drive). 100 % effective (unlike tape to tape piracy - though in those days it was mere copyright theft) . Elite was the cut down version on the Electron (only one galaxy, monochrome, maximum beam lasers) and was so difficult compared with other 8 bit versions (especially docking - had to be perfectly straight).

On my C64, I had a tape to tape back up board where you plugged two datasettes in it. Like a Y piece. As the game loaded, it also copied it onto a blank tape in the second datasette.Elite was the cut down version on the Electron (only one galaxy, monochrome, maximum beam lasers) and was so difficult compared with other 8 bit versions (especially docking - had to be perfectly straight).

Knights of the sky, microprose GP, settlers, lemmings. Hours wasted.
I remember playing a (few) full length seasons on Microprose GP, also got an editor so I could update the car colour schemes and team names/drivers for each new season. Still got a boxed A600 in my mum's loft with a load of games (some... cough... backups). I keep saying one day I will get it out, along with the SNES, PS1, PS2 (Slim) and god know what else is up there...
