Keep getting a pop-up saying they'll be switching to Gmail in March, I must admit I much prefer Inbox. In my opinion, it is easier to organise various emails. In Inbox I have a "purchases" section, for example which I put purchases in (no surprises there), when the delivery comes, I then archive it. In the new Gmail there doesn't appear to be a way to put your own label as a tab across the top, so if I have several things on order that I don't want to archive but still be visible in my main inbox, I'm left with several lines of emails.

Or am I missing something?

Thanks smile

It's bloody annoying.
Inbox is great and intuitive for basic email users like me, Gmail is a complicated mess.

Inbox is/was fantastic for organisation and mail handling, and the interface made it a breeze to use. In the 4 years or so since it's launch it never amassed a sufficient user base to warrant continuing to support it, or so Google claim. Hence their decision to discontinue it next year.

I use it on Desktop and mobile, and will sorely miss it when it goes.

Agreed. Inbox is fab, the GMail client feels about 10 years out of date. Plus they push you ads in GMail, which might not be unconnected to the reason they are forcing you to use it frown

If only these gmail chaps had a way to searching for “ what is inbox? “

Missing a trick.

I never used Inbox, all I want from gmail is to show me a list of all of my emails in descending chronological order. I don't want it to show me only what it thinks I want to see.

This. Never heard of it.

Gmail as a web interface is crap tbh but I only use my gmail account via outlook/iOS mail anyway.

Those who have never used inbox.... It's just a MUCH better interface than Gmail. Allows much better organisation for starters.

I'm gutted it is being removed. They say that a lot of the features will be rolled in but IMO they'd have been better getting rid of Gmail and going completely into inbox.

I don't like the Gmail app on Android so went to outlook and I'm getting on with it quite well.

I am gutted about this. Email is dying, but Inbox makes it usable. No idea what I am going to do when they sunset it.

Inbox, for me, is a much better interface. Gmail feels old in comparison

Google have a habit of doing this, they are retiring fusion tables as well and some people have created careers revolving around using it to display large datasets.

Few other things have changed recently, one of the most noticable being limited number of API calls allowed for free on many Google services which is having an impact on apps and websites.

It's just different. I never got along with Inbox. It tries to work 'smart' AI and features into email and I don't need that. I can see why some like it but it is definitely not just 'better'.

Of course, they could be closing it because some of the more popular features will move across to Gmail.

Outlook works really well for me.

I will miss it dearly.

When I moved across to Inbox I felt as if I was losing control of my mail, but that feeling didn't last long - it works incredibly well.

Looking back at Gmail, it looks a mess, and as has been mentioned there isn't the facility to add your own tabs as per the Inbox categorisation tabs e.g. purchases.

Inbox also shows mails from 'today', 'yesterday' etc rather than just dumping them all on one screen. Oh yes, and of course, I've noticed the averts in Gmail now... which give it the look of a cheap app frown (I know it's free at point of use, but still...).

I shall miss Inbox until they move all the functionality to Gmail, heck, as has been said, why not just move all to Inbox! tongue out

It's purportedly midnight tonight (the 2nd) when they will begin to shut it down.

Sunset it? Does that mean it'll disappear for a while but come back later?

Gmail today has a loading banner celebrating the service turning 15, can't believe it's been around for so long!
Remember it was a real game changer as hotmail at the time offered you something miserly like 2mb of storage then gmail came along and disrupted everything.

Ha! I remember the never ending counter that used to run at the login page, to show that you'd never run out of space? Great marketing.
