I just listened to an interesting podcast that talked about gmail and how every email is 'read' by google and mined for data that is then used for all sorts.

I imagine this could be a factor.

Do you have a link? Sounds like an interesting podcast.

Here you go. It's quite long and mainly talks about the 'evil side' of facebook/google etc. etc.

Inbox is owned by Google and the emails are read by Google in the same manner. So this has no impact.

I was told it was because there was a focus on making more money from their email platforms and so they were going to concentrate on monitising one platform so killed the other.

That sounds logical. I have never heard of Inbox, and never used gmail so i cant really offer much input smile

I've started using Spark.
It's not Inbox but it's better than Gmail.

Hmmm, will have to look into this. How is it better, and assume it works fine with gmail account. Only issue is, I'm assuming you must enter your gmail credentials (tin foil hat mode).

Cheers

All depends if you want a second company reading all your emails

Is there a way to create labels/folders and sort emails into the smart inbox? So, for example, I currently have 4 emails which haven't been archived. 2 of them are purchases I have made online and am waiting for delivery, the other 2 are related to work. Is it possible to create a label/folder which could be titled "purchases" and another "work", put the 4 emails into their corresponding label, so in the smart inbox I only have 2 labels/folders showing, I click on them, and then that would then show the 2 emails contained within that label/folder?

Cheers

Well the Inbox app is still functioning on my phone thankfully, and auto bundles are still working correctly, which is a major plus. The automated bundles and my reminders displaying in my inbox were the two bones of contention for me. Thankfully I still have both at this moment in time. When they announced the closure of Inbox last year I turned off auto-update on the Inbox app, so it's still on version 1.77.xxx and never received any of the further updates to deactivate it etc
Unusually, the Inbox web-service continued working for me until Friday of last week, the 5th April. It didn't redirect to GMail on the web until sometime on the 5th or 6th.

It'll be interesting to see if bundles and some other features do make it to GMail. I wonder if Google Assistant is gonna pick up some of the features of Inbox, in which case they may not make it to GMail ?

For instance, opening My Trips in the Assistant shows each and every trip bundled up just as Inbox does/did, with the option to then open each of the emails relating to the chosen trip.
Similar with Reminders, will Google expect us to use Assistant in the future for these organisational functions ?

Currently, it still feels quicker to access these in Inbox rather than the Assistant app, unless you are somewhere where you can speak a direct request to the Assistant. Navigating the app manually if you don't want to speak in any given environment or for any reason is slower than navigating Inbox.
