Still, I don't think the change from 9 to 10 is anything particularly incredible - feels like a '9.x' upgrade rather than warranting a whole new version...?
Android has been a 'mature' operating system for a number of years now. The days of new innovation and 'wow' features are largely finished, in my opinion. It's about continuing evolution and improvement 'tweaks' I feel.
Now having a playback slider in the media controls in the notification area, for example. Simple tweak, but adds a lot of convenience and versatility.

My feeling is if you want to see breaking developments and innovations connected to android you need to be looking at android Auto and Google Assistant, rather than the mobile handheld OS.
Even android TV seems relatively mature now, integrating home security systems into your TV for example.

In other news my battery life is now noticeably worse than before. Currently on 26% with 3hr54 SOT. Pretty sure I would have been on about 40% before.
Admittedly, my battery life does appear to be an anomaly, but I can't get over the disparity in battery performance between people's devices and their usage. I now charge my phone 2-3 times a week. scratchchin

ETA: The Thumbsnap logo is hiding the SOT unless you click on the image, but the SOT is 14h28m. scratchchin

My battery performance has improved. The only real changes are the gestures and dark mode.

I charge it at night, it's connected and charged in car too and from work so it never used to get below 20%. Maybe at weekends it got lower.

So far it's been 40-50%

So far this morning I'm down to 90% already. Off the charger for an hour, 22 minutes usage, a bit of music via Bluetooth. Not very impressive. In fact it just dropped 2% while typing this very message. Really really disappointed. frown

My battery has now started to perform very badly. Spoke with Google yesterday through the help chat and they are sending me a new phone. I asked if it would be on Android 10 as that's the issue and they could not confirm that it wouldn't be. However they seemed very quick to offer me a new phone. I bought it from them directly as a pre order.

Battery life seems the same on my Pixel 2XL, bought new earlier this year.

I've switched on as much "dark mode" as I can although I'm not 100% sold on the dark content setting for Chrome because some (not all) photos get the negative treatment too. Can't work out why it only does this for some and not others but... Meh, I'll use full dark mode in bed and not elsewhere.

That's very interesting.

Conversely, my battery life seems to have improved even further again (slightly) over the first few weeks on the beta and stable releases when I first noticed an improvement.
I put it down to the OS adapting more to how and when I use the phone ie it had more usage data to work with so it eeked out another slight improvement.
But that was just my presumption, I've nothing to base it on other than going further again between charges.

Would you do a total drain until it powers off, and then a full charge to 100%? See if the battery controller effectively recalibrates itself?
I did that twice in succession at the end of the summer on my 6P running 8.1 as the battery was dipping fast, and powering off anywhere between 20 and 25%.
It sorted the battery issues on that, and the battery now goes further and the percentage indicator is now pretty accurate again.

Mine seems to be draining badly since 10 update, when you spoke to chat did they make you do troubleshooting etc? I went through this process with my Nexus 6P eventually they gave me a full refund and I bought the Pixel XL 2.

Yeah. Told them I'd done everything. Then they asked me to reset. As soon as I did that they said have a replacement. Brand new one.

Might just be worn batteries perhaps? My P2XL has been fine on battery since going to 10. Came off charge this morning about 12 hours ago and I'm still on 60%. I've had about 90 mins screen on time, streaming on Tidal to the car and a few WhatsApp calls too.

Perhaps. Although it was rubbing perfectly pre the update.

Mine seems to have levelled out since I last posted, although I have a sneaking feeling it is still slightly worse, and I don’t buy the worn batteries theory as with the above it all coincided with the update. Anyhow, its not all that much worse than it was at this stage, so I’m not losing any sleep over it.

The update is alright, I’m getting used to the gestures. The animations are nice but not smooth 100% of the time which is a shame but otherwise phone feels *slightly* faster in day to day use. Pixel 4 is at the top of my wish list if I can get a good BF deal.

Ah I'm on a 2XL. I was quite lucky with my Nexus 6P I complained about it every 8 months (even though in reality it was fine) and got sent a new one, which meant warranty was kept running and eventually got a full refund just in time to order a Pixel 2 XL (did mean using a Samsung for a month)

You weren't 'lucky', you lied to defraud a company to get a new phone.

Google has fixed the Tap to Translate feature in Google Translate which broke in 10.
But it now functions very differently and is nowhere near as quick or convenient to use. A step backwards, as it was a feature I used regularly during the week, and used to be quite slick and totally seamless in use. Not anymore, unfortunately...

it's when Google find out that is your issue. They have your ingognito browsing history.
