Android Q Beta out now

Been considering RMA'ing mine for a while, still under warranty until July but the camera doesn't blur/bokeh correctly on the right side of photos in portrait mode; there's also a tiny feint bit of screen burn on the right and near the top, only noticeable on white backgrounds if you look for it, and I use dark mode for as much as possible. I'll do it at some point but fear getting a duffer back!
My first refurb died after 2 days admittedly but the second one has been fine for about 6 weeks now.The Pixel XL I bought for my Mum showed up yesterday, fantastic condition, zero screen burn and battery life seems fine in the 4-5 hours I messed around with it, certainly more than enough to see her through the day - really impressed with it, 10 runs really slickly although there are some omissions from the settings compared to my 2xl, but for £90 with a Spigen case it's my bargain of the year!
Battery has settled on my 2xl the last couple of days, yay!
Met my friend to go and watch Star Wars the other night and she's gotten a 4xl! Only had a sub 5 minutes play as the film started - was taken aback by the size, essentially the same as the 2xl despite the bigger screen, screen is fantastic, super clear and the 90hz definitely makes it feel slick as hell! Can't speak for performance as didn't get long enough with it - it feels a very iterative upgrade from a 2 or 3 but the extra tech for the Assistant via continued conversation etc/face unlock/Soli is the main difference but I can see why a lot of the reviewers were lukewarm on it. I'll still likely pick up a second hand one when they release the 5.

I thought the 4XL was actually meant to be slightly smaller physically than the 2XL (especially width) which would be welcome as I do sometimes feel the 2XL is slightly chunky in the hand.
I'm still going to wait for 5. The lack of ultra wide lens is a BIG miss in my book. Hopefully by then they'll have all 3 lenses and decent battery life and the banks will have updated for FaceID biometrics. Until then the 2XL will do fine.

I just received the update to Android 10 on my Moto One. It seems a little bit slower (not unexpectedly) but I really like the gesture-based navigation and the dark theme.
Was it an over the air update over the top of your old Android 9 install? Personally I'd back everything up and factory reset it, made a big difference on my Pixel 2xl (I'd been on a few of the beta versions and had side-loaded a few features before they were released later in an update - it was slicker/quicker and got rid of a few foibles after I reset. I'd always recommend a fresh install when going to a new software iteration, incremental updates are fine, but definitely worth doing for an all new version) And you're right about gestural navigation being great, hate using on-screen buttons now!Corso Marche said:
My Pixel 2XL is still on the March security update, and doesn't find the April update when I manually check for updates. Anybody else still on the March security patch, or has the April update installed?
April on my 2XL. Happened last week and was a wee 9 Mb update.I've got April on my 2xl also. (I've never had a notification it was available as I always check for it manually when the Reddit post goes up saying it's available, and never had issues doing it that way)
Is your 'Google Play System update' up to date? Go in to Security in the settings and see what it's at, mine is 1st March - and you can try to force the Security update from there also.
Failing that, the images are if you want to sideload via adb https://developers.google.com/android/ota

Quick reply for now;
I contacted Google Support on this, and also on the charging issue which has affected many 2 and 3 owners (including myself for the last 3 months).
All they could suggest was a factory reset for both issues. Which I've done, but both issues have persisted. I've notified them of this, and am awaiting on their response.
With the May security patch becoming available in 15 days or so I'll sit tight and see what happens upon release of that. If that patch doesn't install I'll have to install using ADB. But I hate doing st like that. This is supposed to be a seamless update process each month with no user intervention. I shouldn't be wasting time to do it.
FWIW the Play System update is 1st March, and Security update is 5th March.
Manually checking for updates just returns a message that everything is up to date, showing the March 5 update as being current (when we know it's not).

Well Google's reply has been to return the unit for a chargeable repair, given it is out of warranty.
The charging issue is obviously a software or firmware issue given the volume of 2 and 3 owners it hit at the same time, and Google closed the issue and marked it as resolved via means of a software update. Except it hasn't resolved it for many owners.
And now failing to install a monthly security patch is a chargeable repair also. I'll wait until the May security update and see if that installs. If not I'll try and install it using ADB.
Not sure where I'll go for my next device. P2XL has undoubtedly been the best to date, but these software/firmware issues in recent months are not a good sign for ongoing Pixel software quality control.
Nexus S, Nexus 5, Nexus 7, and Nexus 6P were all very good in their day and gave me years of service. These new issues so close together in software have raised many doubts in my head.
It won't be to an iPhone, as I've used the 3GS, 4S, 5S, 6S, 7 and 8 concurrently with the Nexus devices above, and am aware of their shortcomings too. The iOS bugs on the 7 and 8 were a joke and taking the piss on devices so expensive.
It increasingly appears we're being expected to pay top dollar for beta quality software on devices where the software is what is now dictating when you replace the device, rather than hardware failure or wear and tear.

Might be worth flashing LineageOS or GrapheneOS on to it seeing as the warranty is up - mines runs out in mid June and I'm looking to get away from Googles constant data gathering nonsense.The charging issue is obviously a software or firmware issue given the volume of 2 and 3 owners it hit at the same time, and Google closed the issue and marked it as resolved via means of a software update. GrapheneOS had come to my attention alright, but only when I eventually replace the P2XL and it becomes my secondary device. I don't want to move my daily to it just yet until I can test it for a while myself and see how it might impact daily usage/dependency.
I'd evaluate LineageOS if it was available for my old 6P, but it's not hit the 6P as of yet. It'd be nice to see some of the newer features from android on the 6P, even though I probably use it for less than an hour on any given day.
I'd not heard of E Foundation until now, but just had a quick read through some stuff on their site. I know they state clearly they are a non-profit, but all their builds are currently based on Android 8 Oreo. With Android 11 stable likely being released in 6 months time (if not sooner) it leads to a double whammy of;
1) only being suitable for older devices running Oreo or earlier
2) raises concerns about future development and support, if their current beta builds are 3 years behind the curve.
If you've a device running android 9, 10, or which will receive the upcoming 11 then they are quite clear that you can't use their ROM;
