suspect you'd need new kit, and make the change to the contract to allow 5G. Maybe not a new SIM, but certainly none of it will be for free. On EE, they have a different router and different price structure, certainly. If 3 are real arses they may charge you to move contracts as well.
5G isn't available here for me on EE yet but my contract is enabled for 5G and it came at no extra charge.......Blown2CV said:
i just assumed that if you were using a phone contract SIM in a router then EE would know and would penalise you for it e.g. tethering costs.
I had similar concerns but a quick chat with someone at EE confirmed it was my SIM to do with as I pleased. I have even had a bit of help off EE support when I ran into an issue early on with some stuff not working. For anyone using a B818 router on EE who runs into issues if you speak to EE support and they give you the fix, that was me BTW (for anyone who stumbles on this thanks to Google its an IPV4/6 issue with the APN profile)I'm just contemplating getting a new iPhone 13 with new unlimited data contract at £50/m (might be some deals going). I'll then put the unlimited sim in a router for my home BB. I can use my existing EE sim in the new iPhone.
Can anyone see any issues?

A few-Can anyone see any issues?
1. EE don’t actually do an unlimited data plan.
2. If you need an external IP you don’t get that option, everything being behind CGNAT. If you do, than a VPN service can easily sort this, but at an additional cost (£10/month or so).
3. Be aware of your local mask location and usage patterns. You may suffer significant peak time degradation, you may not.
4. Wiring your modem to a router (double NAT or bridge mode) is not tethering, although EE have attempted to redefine the term to suit their own agenda.
Other than that, my experience has been extremely positive.

You could have saved yourself a bit of time by reading my posts on here covering the same issue I do agree that EE support are good, but they didn't have the answers to force the B818 to run IPv4 only. That came from a Huawei forum and was passed to them.
Hi guys
I have the Three 4G plus hub, but a mast has broken by me and the broadband has now gone down to a snails pace speed.
Three are telling me they haven't got a clue how long it is going to take to fix it and have offered me the opportunity to cancel.
Now could I just by a different mobile sim only contract say with EE or Vodafone and put that in my hub??

I'm not exactly sure what you are asking here, but if it is: "Can I drop my Three data sim into (for example) a Huawei router?" Then I would be very surprised if the answer was not yes, of course you can.I have the Three 4G plus hub, but a mast has broken by me and the broadband has now gone down to a snails pace speed.

Why not ask Three?

He’s asking the opposite. Why not ask Three?
HTH
Can he drop a random sim into his Three hub router.
Easiest way would be to either ring Three customer services as you have said, or just try another sim from another mobile provider that he or a family / friend already has.

Yep that’s what I was trying to get at, my phone contact is with three as well, so I can’t try it out but I will try a families sim to see what happens! Just wondered if anyone has done the same here to their 4G plus hub
Routers are pretty much like mobile phones with respect to what carrier can be used. Some are locked to a network, some are unlocked to all.
Remember when you try another network, you may need to alter the APN settings in the router if it isn’t imported automatically.

Are they expecting you to send the hub back if you cancel?I have the Three 4G plus hub, but a mast has broken by me and the broadband has now gone down to a snails pace speed.

Do you know what sort of coverage other networks give (there's some mast sharing in some areas I believe, so you may be no better off).
I bought a B818 that was unlocked...and a few payg data sims from the different networks to see which to go with.
if i was doing this i'd probably just send the 3 kit back (it's probably a contract term anyway) and take out a new contract with a different provider including SIM and their kit. Anything else is just swimming against the tide. You can buy non-specific mesh routers with SIM slots though...

The clowns at 3 have taken my local mast offline and won’t commit to any resolution time. Is there any way to track ongoing work ?
Exactly the same as me, I asked for a person in this country to speak to but they won’t give you any details at all, they just say sorry and ask if you want to cancel there and then, proper crap But they have the cheapest mobile broadband out of everyone, others are around £40/50 so it’s a hard choice weather to wait it out, I might try a ID unlimited data sim, £17 for a rolling month contract so not much to lose

New to this thread thinking of going down the 4G route.
So need a router and Three seems the cheapest.
Should I buy a seperate router and use another provider?
Don’t want a 2 year contract just in case it’s no good.

They use the three network, £18 pcm for unlimited data plus minutes and texts, no contract so can cancel anytime, no issue with it being used in a router for home broadband only.
