New Three 5G hub received yesterday.

Currently trying it in different locations in the house.... using speedcheck i've found the connection varies between about 500mb and 60mb.

Does it settle down if you leave it in an area for a bit or should initial speeds be indicative?

And does the side of your house that it' position on really make as much difference as i'm seeing?!

Regardless... it's much quicker than our existing solution!
I found a huge difference to be had from where it was placed in the house. In a window on the correct side for the mast being the best option but in the end ours ended up in the loft where it seems less important, I guess because there isn't 2 foot of stone blocking the signal. It should be fairly consistent when you leave it in one place but you will get periods where the speed varies. I guess local demand, weather etc all play a part. Our EE one generally sits around 50-80 down which is plenty for our use but every now and then we'll be down to 10 for a short period which is still usable for work etc but the kids might have streaming or xbox issues. It rarely lasts long.

I think my 4g router is on the blink....it's some TP_Link thing which replaced another TP_Link thing....so assuming they are not the best.

Consensus on this thread used to be Huawei B818 for home use although these seem pretty hard / impossible to get these days at a sane price.

Is there a successor to the B818 that folks can recommend?

Just left Three and switched to Smarty saving around £10 per month for exactly the same service

It was a NIGHTMARE leaving Three. I was out of contract but still had to give 30 days notice. Had I known, I would have ported number to Smarty, but wanted to keep it easier.

Took me 1 hour on their chat service to cancel, only to receive an email on Day 29 that said 'Great news that you are staying with us!'.

I then spent a further 1 hour 40 minutes to cancel what was already cancelled. That was on chat as when calling them, their service answered and immediately hung up.

They then sent me a final bill. I am contesting that bill as they were such a disaster area and utterly hopeless.

In contrast, Smarty has been OK so far. Time will tell though when it comes time to leave them.

Anyone here on EE with a phone (not DATA) SIM in a Huawei 4G router? Mine has worked flawlessly in my B525 for years but after some "network upgrades" outages by EE last night, mine now point blank refuses to connect to the internet and oddly doesn't even recognise the ethernet cable in any port either. "Network cable unplugged" my PC tinterweb settings say, despite the cable being very much connected between the PC and router. Numerous power cycles and hard resets with a pin (doesn't do anything, no matter how long it's held in for) haven't achieved anything.

But there's definitely internet as I can connect to the mast just fine using the mobile internet on my phone with the same SIM in it.

My suspicion is that EE have blocked using phone SIMs in third party 4G routers not supplied by them, hence why the internet connectivity on the same SIM works fine in a phone. However, this doesn't explain why the PC cannot see the router at all over ethernet. Because it's not detecting any cable, I can't even access the router admin.

These seem to be quite picky over ethernet cables too. I have some blue ones and I remember they refused to be recognised when I first tried them years ago, but the yellow one that's in it now was instantly recognised and has worked fine for many years, but now for some reason it can't "see" it.

Any suggestions?

Im on 3 for 4g Internet and have just decided to upgrade router. I have a small old vodafone one and i wanted to see if a better quality one makes a difference before renewing contracts. I have bought one off ebay but all of a sudden im wondering if this puts me at any danger of cyber warfare! Ive had my id stolen before so slightly para. Is there any way these sellers can be altering these modems to get a way into your device or see what youre browsing? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/186275930966?mkcid=16&a... this is similar to the one ive bought but still locked to 3 network.

I've just recently renewed my Three broadband contract for another two years. Never had a problem with the old Huawei thing But was given a new ZTE MC888 router thingie in the shop & can't believe the differenc.
Much faster speeds up & down & far superior wifi coverage in our home, in fact one room previouslky could/nt get wifi at all but now is capable of receiving film steaming.
Also the Januaru deal I got was half price BB for 12 months so a winner all around.

Thats what they quoted me on to renew my contract with 5g. Ive currently only got 4g plan. My missus has a 3 sim with 5g but rarely picks it up at out house. That being said she does about double what our current router gets on a speedtest. Is it worth me signing up again to get that new router if i cant get 5g at house?

Ive got an unlocked B818 with directional external aerial sat here doing nothing, open to sensible offers before it goes on eBay.
Only selling as I swapped to Starlink due to zero 4G signal when I moved house. At my old address it was excellent.

Well new modem arrived yesterday so played around with the sim in both new and old and routers in different positions. Ive determined, as my missus says bigger isn't always better! The new router makes zero difference on a speed test. What was interesting is if i had a window open near the router signal seemed to improve. Double glazing must effect it a bit?
