Thing is, even if you see no option and you don’t want Prime then you can always hit the x at the top of the screen and close your browser. Go buy the product you want somewhere else.

At this point I’m not even being condescending, just offering an out if you see none and you’ve scanned.

There is always an out.
You are being condescending though aren't you?

If I see no option and I don't want prime why would I NOT continue my purchase?

As far as I'm concerned I'm not subscribing to anything!!

This simple fact seems lost on you, much like the post /\ that clearly states they clicked on a link that stated continue without prime but still ended up with it!!

Sure they can then go back into their account and cancel it but that doesn't change the face that Amazon are using dirty tricks to sign people up.

It should ALWAYS be opt in, not have to opt out.

for the avoidance of doubt, I clicked the tiny blue text link circled above when ordering and still ended up with fking Prime!
What was the next page? And the page after that? All the way to the end of the process.
I wouldn't bother. We all know Amazon use UI/UX to their advantage so you think (like you did) that you've ordered WITHOUT Prime yet you DID subscribe!

Perhaps he designed their pages?

& as has already been alluded to, what you see might not be what the next person sees, always split testing to see what layout gains them the highest % of Prime subscriptions no doubt!
Agreed. The 'I want to proceed without Prime' as highlighted by Oakey should be equally sized / prominent as the 'With Prime' button if Amazon were going to be fair / not employing underhand tactics to get people to sign up to Prime. I've personally not been caught out by it (so far), but can understand how you could be if tired , stressed, less Amazon savvy etc.

When I order through Amazon I get the option to try the free trial or the option to use the standard delivery.

I have a simple solution to this, I just send a link of what I want to order to my wife and get her to order it for me as she does subscribe to prime. I simply send the money to her via PayPal.

I get free delivery and don’t have to pay for it. She also does it for both our families, friends, work colleagues must be quite a few people.

Your wife could share her prime benefits with your account to avoid having to do this.

Well learning has taken place. I did not know this. It would work for me but I reckon there are a good few number of people she orders for. Not sure she would want to share access to her Amazon account with all of them.

You can only share with 1 member of your household

I’ve been in IT tech roles for nearly 15 years and the fkers still caught me out once.

They’ve reversed all the UI/UX design principles to trick you into it. Unless you read the prompts properly at each step, you basically have to decline it multiple times to place an order.

Sneaky bds.

I think the sharing thing is same household only.

I'm bemused you re-pay your wife though!

My wife is ever helpful but not sure even she would order for friends and workmates - potential right faff if any issues.

Nothing to be bemused about as different couples have different ways of operating.

We have a joint account that pays for joint expenditures and household running costs. We then have our own accounts. We both have access to the business accounts.

If I buy something from Amazon that is just for me then I send her the money and she orders it using her prime subscription (I wasn’t aware prime could be shared in a household it could be until yesterday).

If it’s something for the combined us she pays and takes it out the joint account.

It’s worked fine for us for years.

Why don't you give her your card details, she can then use that but on prime.

We both have PayPal. With modern face recognition and Siri I can just tell the phone to send the money. I don’t have/want/need/desire to know what my wife has in her account. She likewise has never asked me either. If she asked I would have no issues showing her and likewise she would show me without issue.

It’s called trust. It works very well in our relationship.

I think you've got the wrong end of the stick there.

I'm not talking about looking in each other's account or any trust issues, I'm just saying that she could store and use your card details on her Amazon account when you want something.

It's possible to trust each and have more than 1 account.

i'd say 1 joint bank account is more likely to be mistrust and insecurity than trust.

Guys let’s not turn it in to a pissing contest over bank accounts. What my wife and I do is up to us and works for us.

I just offered a simple solution if you have someone in your extended family who subscribes to prime. Get them to order it for you. Amazon can’t try and con you in to signing up if you don’t buy anything from them.

I've sent back a couple of items recently, it was free and really easy to do. I didn't even have to write anything on the box, just scanned a code at the shop and that printed a label.

No need for separate accounts then!
